On International Women’s Day, we celebrate the extraordinary women in our club who help make a difference and lead with care and inspire others.

Today we celebrate International Women's Day, a day to recognise the extraordinary women who shape our communities, lead with courage, and inspire change in ways both big and small. 💜

Across the world, women are lifting others up, breaking barriers, nurturing families, leading organisations, and building a better future for the generations that follow. Their strength is not only found in grand achievements, but in everyday acts of kindness, resilience, leadership and service.

In Rotary, we see this spirit in action everywhere. From club presidents and community volunteers to global leaders and changemakers, women are helping drive Rotary’s mission of service above self. They are leading projects, empowering communities, championing education, improving health, and helping create lasting peace.

Today is a reminder that when women are supported, encouraged, and empowered, entire communities thrive.

So today we celebrate the leaders, the quiet achievers, the innovators, the caregivers, the trailblazers and the everyday heroes.

To the incredible women in Rotary and across our communities, I thank you for the difference you make every single day.

Happy International Women’s Day.

What happens when Rotarians swap boardrooms for bowling lanes? Friendly rivalry… and a few surprisingly competitive streaks! 🎳

Members from the Rotary Clubs of Tawa and Wellington North–Karori to Khandallah came together for a fantastic social evening of Tenpin Bowling, split into five teams and ready for action. Ten of our Wellington North members took part — and they certainly didn’t just come to make up the numbers.

A special mention to Lionel Nunns, who proved the skills of youth never truly disappear. He finished runner-up champion, just 20 points behind Tawa’s Richard Herbert, who secured the winning score of 145. Lionel’s sporting days at Lytton High School in Gisborne clearly laid a solid foundation — class is permanent.

Hot on their heels were Allan Frazer and David Young, not far off the pace and keeping the pressure firmly on. It was close, competitive and full of good-natured banter.

A brilliant evening of fellowship, laughter and a touch of healthy competition — with Zaheda Davies capturing the action behind the camera.

If this sounds like your kind of fun, we’d love you — and your family or partner — to join us at our next social event. Keep an eye out… the next one is coming up soon.

🧠 Empowering Teens, One Step at a Time! 🌟

This morning on RNZ, they highlighted Lifting the Lid, a powerful Rotary initiative that's making waves in Wellington's secondary & intermediate schools. 🚀

The initiative is designed to break down barriers and help schools support students’ mental health when they need it most. With funding provided within 24 hours and no red tape, it ensures that when the timing is crucial, help is already on its way. 💙

We’re proud to say that we, at the Rotary Club of Wellington North are one of the first clubs to join this initiative and it remains a valued part of what we do to support our community. 🙌

Check out the full article to learn more about how Lifting the Lid is helping create a safer, more supportive environment for our teens. 👏

The programme called Lifting the Lid runs in several parts of the country and started in Wellington in 2022.

We met with some students over our Scholarship BBQ evening in Jan. They are all proud recipients of scholarships from our club towards their Tertiary or Life Skills for the year. It’s heartwarming to hear about their journey and hopes and plans for the future. We look forward to keep in touch and see them more at our events as well.
