St Vincent de Paul Society Wellington

St Vincent de Paul Society Wellington Vinnies Wellington provides practical advice, advocacy and support for Wellingtonians in need. Need Help? Want to Help? Every helping hand counts.

St Vincent de Paul Society Wellington is a dedicated and diverse group of people unified to help make a difference here in Wellington. We provide welfare and support services to anyone in the Wellington City Council area:
- A choice-based food bank.
- A full-time social worker.
- Supported employment for people with intellectual disabilities.
- Access to free furniture, homeware and clothing.
- Clothing and bedding packs for new mum’s and their babies.
- Companionship to those in rest homes, hospitals and isolated residencies.
- An inclusive sustainable sewing studio providing meaningful activity for the community. These services are responsive and compassionate, provided without judgment or discrimination. To get help, please call 04-389-7122 or email [email protected] right now and we will talk you through the various services available to you. WOW at Vinnies Kelburn
For the WOW display in Kelburn, our Pasifka wahine wears a dress in a Tongan ngatu (tapa in Fiji, siapo in Samoa) bark cloth pattern. Her headdress is a beaded collar (Samoan) and a 'ei katu (Rarotongan). She also has a horse mussel shell neckpiece from Papua New Guinea and colourful fans from Samoa.
The theme of this year’s WoW is ‘Glo!’ and pearls have an inner glow. So, our gent’s 'WoWtfit' is inspired by the pearly kings of East London, UK, a tradition dating back hundreds of years—but with a New Zealand twist. A damaged suit jacket has been recycled for the occasion with over 1000 vintage and modern ‘pearl’ buttons.

WOW at Vinnies Brooklyn
Joyce, our Brooklyn model, is dressed in a crochet number with her glow coming from a high-vis vest and fluro wool. To add a bit of sparkle, some twinkle lights are coming out of her purse.
She stands beside her WOW Tree, constructed with paper circles that tie in with the bottom of her outfit. Brooklyn customers love anything arts and crafts, so the idea for the outfit started from there.
