Ronald McDonald House Wellington

Ronald McDonald House Wellington RMHW is a home away from home for families with children who require specialist care in Wellington? This principle remains at the heart of everything we do.

Our House is a home away from home for many families who walk through our doors each year. We aim to keep the entire family together throughout their children’s medical journey so that they can face the weight of their children’s illness together- families are stronger when they are together. Along with accommodation, Ronald McDonald House Wellington provides a wider support programme which alleviates the emotional, practical and financial burdens that accompany our families during what can be a highly stressful time

McHappy Season is bringing plenty of smiles to our Wellington McDonald's restaurants, with crews proudly getting behind RMHC New Zealand and helping raise awareness for the families we support.

Today only, when you purchase a Big Mac from McDonald's, $1 will be donated to RMHC NZ, helping families stay close to their child while they receive medical treatment away from home.

It's a small choice that can make a big difference, so if you're grabbing lunch today, make it a Big Mac and help keep families together when they need it most. ❤️🍔

At just 10 months old, Stanley Spadafora was struggling to breathe, refusing solid food, and becoming increasingly unwell. After months of uncertainty and unanswered questions, his family finally learned that a rare vascular ring was compressing his oesophagus and windpipe.

Stanley and his family travelled to Auckland for treatment, expecting to stay for just one night. Instead, they spent three and a half weeks away from home as Stanley underwent further testing and prepared for major surgery.

Throughout it all, Ronald McDonald House became a home away from home, giving Meghan and Mark the ability to stay close to their little boy and focus on what mattered most: being there for Stanley.

"We are beyond grateful for RMHC," says mum Meghan. "What a special place."

Today, Stanley is a busy, energetic three-year-old who keeps his parents on their toes, and his story is a powerful reminder of why keeping families close during a child's medical journey matters.

A huge thank you to Auckland City Toyota for making magic happen for two of our RMHC tamariki!

Through a partnership with Auckland City Toyota, Toyota NZ and New Zealand Rugby, Aranui was selected for an unforgettable Junior All Blacks Experience, recognising kids who show resilience, kindness, courage and a positive attitude.

The day included a guided tour of the All Blacks Experience with former All Black Ian Jones, an exclusive merch pack, and a taste of the values and spirit of New Zealand rugby up close.

Thank you, Auckland City Toyota, for your incredible generosity and for being such a valued part of the RMHC family. We're so grateful for your ongoing support. 🏈

As we were getting ready to capture our Matariki display in the Wellington House today, we were lucky enough to meet Temelia, a new NICU mum, and her own mum, Arrianna. It was the perfect opportunity to welcome them with a little Matariki aroha.

A huge thank you to the wonderful Kapakapanui Lions Club for donating beautiful Matariki cookies for our families. Along with our much-loved RMHC teddy bears, they're helping make this special season a little brighter for whānau spending Matariki away from home.

Matariki is a time to come together, reflect, and look ahead with hope. We're so grateful to our supporters who help create moments of comfort and connection for families when they need them most ✨

Meet Popi. Popi has volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House in Wellington for 13 years, clocking up 1100 hours for her community over that period. Popi is central to the running of laundry at the House, and I hear she runs a very tight ship!

Popi and her fellow Ronald McDonald House volunteers were recognised by the Volunteer Wellington Mahi Aroha awards. I was honoured to attend and meet them. The work they do to help people in what is often one of the most challenging times in their lives is so special, and it is done with love, care and respect.

A very special moment during National Volunteer Week.

18/06/2026

As Volunteering New Zealand National Volunteer Week comes to a close, we want to say a heartfelt thank you to the incredible people who give their time, energy and kindness to RMHC New Zealand.

Our volunteers are the backbone of our Houses - creating warm welcomes, offering practical support, and helping families feel at home during some of the toughest times of their lives.

Volunteers like Jesse, who has quietly shown up at our Christchurch House each week, making a difference in ways both big and small. We're so grateful for her, and for every volunteer who helps keep the House running.

Thank you for all that you do.
