Trio Korimako 3 pm Sunday 24 May at St Andrew’s on The Terrace.
Korimako Trio is a new piano trio with Helene Pohl (violin), Rolf Gjielsten (cello) and Michael Endres piano. It brings together three internationally renowned musicians with decades of experience, who are beloved in New Zealand for the powerful communication as well as intelligence of their playing. The name, inspired by the unique beauty and purity of the song of the Korimako/Bellbird, reflects the new ensemble’s aspirations. (“Kori” also resonates with the meanings of vibrancy and energy.) They look forward to bringing their music to life for you as the Korimako brightens the dawn chorus with its reverberant tones. In their frequent collaborations over the years, they have enjoyed a real collaborative spark, and a fresh approach to both classics and cutting-edge repertoire informed by a deep understanding of both the structure and the emotional content of the music. www.korimakotrio.nz
They recently played at Waikanae and the concert was reviewed by Elizabeth Kerr who said “fine musicians in thoughtful accord” and “Although the Korimako Trio is a new ensemble, they feel already like an established group, their musical rapport and dynamic unity”. Here is a link to the full review:
