The Zimbelstern Foundation The Zimbelstern Foundation is an established entity in the New Zealand music scene. Please include your name which will appear on the receipt and ‘donation’.

The Zimbelstern Foundation is a bold new entity in the New Zealand music scene. Taking the pipe organ as its starting point, the Foundation aims to build audiences for, and broaden the appeal of, this complex and fascinating instrument by breaking down barriers and creating new ways for people to interact with this “King of Instruments”. The Foundation’s aims are:

to create and promote opportunit

ies for artists from New Zealand and overseas to give public performances in order to advance education in and public appreciation of the organ,

to promote a range of other musical experiences and opportunities primarily in (but not limited to) the Wellington region for the benefit of the wider community,

to encourage the use of the Foundation's facilities or services to enable artists to reach their full potential. The Zimbelstern Foundation is spearheaded by a strong team of key players in the New Zealand music scene. It will engage with other organisations to promote new experiences, pursue excellence and diversity in performance and enthuse the next generation of music lovers. Activities planned for this year include family friendly concerts, an organ series featuring national and international performers and support for young emerging organ players. The Foundation is a charitable trust registered under the Charitable Trusts Act 1957 (registration number CC53621). It will rely heavily on the generosity of funders, partners, benefactors and friends to enable the Foundation to succeed in its aims. You can make a one-off contribution or establish a regular donation to the Foundation by direct credit through your bank into the Foundation’s account: A/c no: 12-3141-0278755-00. Your donation of $5 or more is eligible for a tax rebate of 33.33%, up to the level of your taxable income. We will email you a tax deductible receipt once we receive your donation

Meet the guest recitalist for our upcoming concert - John Linker

Dr John Linker came to New Zealand from the US in 2015 to take up the post of Director of Music at Christchurch Transitional Cathedral. John manages a demanding schedule for the Cathedral Choir, which includes six choral services each week during term time and singing for civic services. In 2018 the Choristers undertook a successful tour of Australia and Japan, and in 2019 the Cathedral Choir sang in the presence of HRH The Prince of Wales (now King Charles III). Recently the Choristers appeared in concert with the world-renowned vocal ensemble The King’s Singers.

John has been Music Director of Christchurch City Choir, Canterbury’s premiere symphonic choral ensemble, since 2016, conducting several major concerts annually. The City Choir has enjoyed singing a wide range of repertoire in recent years, including Brahms Ein deutsches Requiem, popular opera choruses, Handel’s Messiah, and annually joins Christchurch Symphony Orchestra for Last Night of the Proms. Additionally, John has been Acting Director of Chapel Choir at Christ’s College for 2025 during the interregnum period.

John holds music degrees from Northern Illinois University (Bachelor of Music, 1997), Chicago Musical College at Roosevelt University (Master of Music, 2003), and the College-Conservatory of Music at University of Cincinnati (Doctor of Musical Arts, 2017).
