URGENT ROAD CLOSURES UPDATE
Kia ora koutou,
For the arrival of Hīkoi mō te Tiriti in Pōneke tomorrow, including creating a hīkoi webpage for visitors, Wellingtonians and commuters to find the information they need. It has links to NZTA, Metlink, NZ Police and our social media channels, which will be updated throughout the day.
Wellington City Council hīkoi information: https://wellington.govt.nz/news-and-events/news-and-information/hikoi
Latest estimates have several thousand people heading first to Waitangi Park, then to Parliament from:
SH1 from Porirua – driving (including suburban roads).
SH2 from Petone – walking and driving.
From the Southern and Eastern suburbs – walking and driving.
Here is the latest information:
Traffic management
Traffic management trucks to es**rt the hīkoi on SH1 and SH2 will be on standby to assist if needed.
From 5.00am to approximately 12 noon, there will be no vehicle access from the junction of Lambton Quay and Bowen St and along Molesworth St, up to Hill St. Pedestrians can use the footpaths. Please use an alternative route to get to your destination.
Traffic management will be removed from 12 noon, however, it may be later than this, depending on crowd size and how long it takes for the hīkoi to leave Parliament grounds.
Residents near Waitangi Park and along the hīkoi route
Please see our web page for up-to-date information about detours, residents-only access, and road closures.
