It's such a privilege and a tremendous effort to represent New Zealand on the world stage. Jack and Elliott gave their absolute best throughout training with their experts and their employers. They've both benefited, along with their employers, from the depth of skills and experiences of international competition - not to mention new lifelong friendships made over the last week.

A shout out to two people making things happen. Our two expert judges, Neill and Jeroen have been putting in the long hours. Firstly, to ensure their respective skill competitions were ready to go and secondly, assessing the competitors work during and after each competition day. This is their first year as international judges, although you wouldn’t know! They have got into their work quickly and been embraced by their peers. Thanks guys, we really appreciate you.

After four fierce days of competition Jack and Elliott can now take a short break. It has been intense; in their respective skill competitions they have systematically worked through a range of tasks aimed to challenge and push them to their limits. Great job guys, you have given it your absolute best, we are so proud of you. Can’t wait for Sunday nights closing ceremony to learn your results.

It is mere hours now before Jack and Elliott wake up, then knuckle down into their competitions tasks at the 47th WorldSkills Competition. In prep, along with 1400 other competitors, they’ve been let loose for a day in their skill areas to talk with the experts about each task ahead of them and familiarise themselves with the tools that they will be putting to good use over the next four days. They’ve cut, drilled and crimped their way around to get the feel of how each tool performs compared with those they are used to at home.
