The IIA Internal Audit Watch. The Inner Audit: Confronting a confidence crisis blog

In an era of AI, ESG and exponential risk, internal auditors are increasingly expected to have clarity across a wide range of emerging and complex areas.

In this thoughtful Internal Auditor article, Farah Eida explores the pressure to be an “expert” on everything, and why that expectation can feel paralysing. The article offers practical reflections on how internal auditors can refocus on clarity, insight and value, rather than certainty and perfection.

A timely read for internal audit professionals navigating complexity, change and increasing stakeholder expectations.

Registrations are now open for IIA NZ & The Risk Insider: Your Project Isn’t Telling You the Truth. Join us online on Thursday, 6 August 2026, from 9.00 am to 10.00 am NZT, for a one-hour session with overseas guest speaker Matthew Oleniuk, Director of The Risk Insider.

Matthew will explore: Your project isn’t telling you the truth: the warning signs that never appear in dashboards, reports or slide decks.

Dashboards and reports can provide reassurance, but they can also hide the early signals of project instability. This session will explore why formal reporting can miss the uncomfortable messages leaders most need to hear, and how public sector, governance, audit, risk and delivery leaders can identify warning signs before projects begin to fail.

Participants will gain insights into:

• Why formal reporting can hide early warnings
• The patterns that show a project may be entering dangerous territory
• How routine dashboards can create blind spots
• What leaders can do to surface difficult truths earlier

This complimentary online event is open to IIA NZ members and non-members.

Registrations close Thursday, 30 July 2026.
