MIX artist Daniel Phillips had a busy evening drawing portraits of visitors at this year’s Pablos Art Auction, held in November at Te Puna Mātauranga o Aotearoa National Library of New Zealand in Wellington.

Cowie lives and paints in Pōneke Wellington. Cowie’s work is represented in several public collections including Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa. The artist exhibited with Peter McLeavey Gallery throughout the 1980s before moving to London where he worked as a scenic painter for the National Theatre and as an award-winning visual artist for film and television, before eventually returning to Wellington in 2015.

Here is some information about this artist: Born in Peru, Montreal based artist Manuel Lau works on oil paintings and graphic arts. In his art works, it is the multiplicity of his images of contorted and grotesque species and things that bring him most attention. Tropical insects, domestic Latin American animals, human beings, pre-historical fishes, exotic vegetables and plants, are equated with daily goods such as bicycles, helmets, gloves, umbrellas , and are assembled on antique-like embellished paintings panels.

This is a detail of a painting by the one and only multi talented Delaney Davidson. The full work will be available at Pablos Art Auction 2025 on November 19. This is what mr Davidson says about the work: Golden Bay View Down into Onekakā, ink and paint on foil. Aquathane seal “This painting was one of a series of Onekakā landscapes, painted around Christmas of 2023. It shows driving back from Collingwood to the Mussel Inn, turning the corner going downhill and seeing a glimpse of the flat land of Onekakā through the tree trunks on the side of the road. It was an exciting moment because I knew I was staying at the Mussel Inn and nearly home. There was something really nice about being in the shelter of the trees and looking out into the open space.”

This wonderfull painting is titled ‘City’ and was created by Pablos Artist Luke Sullivan and will be available for auction on November 19. This is what Luke says about the work: “I made this artwork this year and was trying out a toned surface to paint on. After finishing the painting it reminded me of those images of Gaza city and the destruction you see most nights on the news.”

This awesome artwork depicting Aotearoa’s iconic Manu - the Kereru is by Greg Straight and will be up for auction November 19th. Greg is an artist and illustrator based in Auckland’s North Shore. His career has evolved from a well-oiled background as a graduate of Elam School of Fine Arts, where his been in demand creating custom illustrations for a number of iconic kiwi brands.Know for his confident “kiwi cool” aesthetic, Greg’s design sense is defined by his interest in simplicity, balance, colour and pattern. This design ethos generates distinctive pieces notable for their geometric forms, iconic imagery and limited colour palette. Taking inspiration from kiwi life, Greg’s sought after collection of fine art prints show us classic memories and NZ Scenes; summer roadies, riding bikes, hitting the waves and hanging out at the beach. Nostalgic, retro and cool.

It’s all on again for Pablos Art Auction 2025 our biggest fundraiser event of the year. Happening on November 19 at The National Library of New Zealand. This here is a detail of an amazing work that will be up for auction on the night by one of our long time supporters Meta Assink-“ I am fascinated by water in all forms. Water is the essence of life. This particular work shows the surface disturbances created by a strong northerly of Island Bay. In between these patches are flat areas created by the currents beneath.” Auction tickets are available at Eventfinda.

This wonderful piece will available at Pablos Art Auction on November 19. It has been kindly donated by Ben Lysaght and this it what he says about the work - “Color is a pivotal part of my painting practice, using hyper saturated palettes to both overwhelm and immerse, making the familiar alien, turning earth into acid, reflecting the quixotic nature of the space depicted.”
