It was a pleasure to welcome Hon Erica Stanford MP to the Wellington Chamber of Commerce for our Beehive to Business event today. In partnership with consulting firm Allen + Clarke, the Beehive to Business events bring Ministers and politicians to speak directly to our business community.

Today Minister Stanford spoke about her priorities for the education system, focusing specifically on lifting academic achievement of all students. Speaking to her focus on equity, she emphasised the need to ensure that schools are equipped to give all children in New Zealand the same strong foundation for learning, no matter where in the country they are or what their family circumstances are. She provided insight into some of the fundamental shifts in the approach to teaching reading, and her commitment to improving the measurement of all programmes and initiatives so we can focus on what is working.

It’s not often you get an entire audience nodding along with a Minister, but there was a lot of agreement in the audience about her areas of focus for lifting educational achievement in New Zealand.
