Thank you to everyone who continues to tautoko Nau Mai Tau Mai and an extra special thanks to Nikau Foundation for the support and acknowledgment in the services we share with whānau at Compassion Soup Kitchen Te Kīhini Hupa o Pūaroha

The magic of healing and connection unfolds beautifully when the music, haircuts and hang out space is offered on a Wednesday morning.

We have been able to give more than 300 haircuts in this last year, but it is SO much more than this.

During these sessions the air naturally shifts, conversations soften, barriers dissolve, hearts connect and humanity shines through simple acts of care and belonging.

The music becomes the heartbeat of the space and has been a potent catalyst for Whānau to re-ignite their talents and step forward to share, teach and encourage others.

2025 will be our 8th year at the Soup Kitchen and we look ahead with great hope and a whole lotta love x

Ngā mihi nui to Hot Yoga of New Zealand, Wellington and the generous hearts of who have supported us this month via Givealittle.

We finished the year sharing waiata at the annual Compassion Soup Kitchen Te Kīhini Hupa o Pūaroha Christmas lunch party. A gorgeous afternoon of connection and community.

We look forward to more offerings next year and appreciate you all for helping us to share our services where they have been needed.

Our beautiful whānau at Hot Yoga of New Zealand, Wellington & Lower Hutt Studios
are holding koha classes open to all today, at 5pm at both studios.

The koha raised will go in to our continued mahi at Wellington Soup Compassion Soup Kitchen Te Kīhini Hupa o Pūaroha.

🌸 November's Community Koha Class is happening this Friday at 5pm at both studios. This will be the last one for the year.

🌸 This month we want to extend our koha to Nau Mai Tau Mai. Three of the Hot Yoga family Paul, Jemma and Chrissy run a charitable trust that provide services which encourage connection and support in the wider community. Their focus is on groups living in vulnerable and disadvantaged circumstances, as well as the caregivers and support people.

🌸 EVERYONE is welcome, bring friends, colleagues or family and share the practice of yoga.

🌸 Aim to arrive early as booking is not available for this class. If you have a mat bring it with you!

We are approaching the end of another beautiful year of service to the Wellington Soup Kitchen.

Since 2017 we have been part of the whānau, and heading in once a fortnight to create a hang out space after breakfast.

An opportunity for whānau, to come get a haircut, to soak up the live music, to jam, to chat, to rest.

The rooms becomes a vibrant and safe hub of sharing…song, stories, inspiration, hugs, smiles, kindness, the load.

This space is about connection. To be received. To give back.

A flow of Aroha Atu, Aroha Mai.

Essential part to everybody’s hauora in daily life.

We want to thank Nikau Foundation for the funding we lucky to receive, that enabled us to sustain these sessions through a critical time, especially after the last Covid lockdowns.

As we head into 2024, we hope to continue this regular service for the whānau.

We want to take a moment and wish a Happy Birthday to our beautiful sister Chrissy.

We often step back and just watch in awe of how naturally her smile, her warmth, her words, her wisdom and her melody touches the people she meets in such a profound and healing way.

Chrissy is able to open doors to absolute potential to the other side of the challenges that people maybe facing, just by offering her sincere presence of unconditional love.

We thank you from the bottom of our hearts Chrissy, for sharing your magic so generously.

After a long wait for programmes to be up and running again in the prisons since Covid, we are thrilled to be back with the tāne in Manawatu.

It has only been 3 weeks, yet the response and enthusiasm from the whaiora has been incredibly motivating.

We have been taking time to re-connect, to move, to sing and integrate the shared mātauranga everyone contributes into the space.

Last week were blown away by the kōrero shared by staff and many of the tāne about how they are practicing in their own time and sharing bits and pieces with others in their unit. Some spoke about the changes they have already noticed in how they feel physically, mentally and emotionally.

"Even though I couldn't move last week, something inside told me to come anyway. Just lying on my mat in the wairua helped me heaps and I felt so much better. Coming in here is like coming back in to light, It helps me to see clearly and I already know it is helping me to heal."

To be greeted with the kind of feedback means the world. To know that the practice goes beyond the room, beyond the hour spent together and rippling in to the rest of the prison, is exactly why we continue this mahi. It is the absolute willingness and devotion from everyone who attends that allows the potency of these ancient practices to be a catalyst towards transformation and has an affect on the well-being of all beings.
