π PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT FROM YOUR VERY TIRED LOCAL VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTERS π π€
Right teamβ¦ can we all PLEASE learn the backyard burning rules before half of Waverley rings 111 thinking the apocalypse has arrived? π
We quite enjoy:
π΄ Sleep
β Drinking our coffee HOT for once
π Not having your neighbours think their house is about to burn down
Before you light ANYTHING, check here first:
π₯ https://www.checkitsalright.nz/
And yes⦠there ARE actual Taranaki Regional Council rules around backyard burning too:
π https://www.trc.govt.nz/environment/coast/spraying-burning-and-other-emissions/backyard-burning/
Quick reminder:
β If you live in an urban area on a normal-sized section with rubbish collection, you generally CANNOT burn your green waste/rubbish.
β βBut Iβve always done itβ is sadly not an official fire permit.
β βIβve just moved here and I didnβt knowβ is also the wrong answer.
β βSheβll be rightβ has resulted in WAY too many pager activations lately.
If your neighbours are panicking, smoke is blowing across the road, or the fire is taller than your shedβ¦ chances are itβs probably not okay π
In the comments section I have attached the local map - if you are inside the yellow then itβs a no go π
Love always,
Your sleep-deprived volunteers at the Waverley Volunteer Fire Brigade π
