Earlier this month we visited Matakana School to speak to students about the purpose of Kowhai Youth Trust Warkworth 💛

We talked about how it feels to help someone - like when you include someone in a game at lunchtime - and how when everyone gives a little, it adds up to something really special.

Last week, the school brought that idea to life with their m***i day, raising an amazing $484 for local young people 🙌

Thank you Matakana School, students, staff and parents, for your kindness and community spirit. You’re helping make sure no one misses out.

Playing sport builds confidence, resilience, friendships and a real sense of belonging. Being part of a team helps our wellbeing and social connection.

But the cost of boots, gear, and registrations can hold some families back.

Thanks to passionate local donors who’ve told us “we don’t want to see any kids miss out”, Kowhai Youth Trust Warkworth can help.

👉 If you’re on the fence about signing your child up to a team because of the cost and possible strain it may place on your family situation, please reach out.

This week, a special group of bowlers were welcomed to Warkworth. Known as the Kittyhawks, they’re made up of players from clubs across Auckland who travel specifically to raise funds for local charities in each host club’s community.

We’re honoured that Kowhai Youth Trust Warkworth and Rodney Health Charitable Trust were chosen as this year’s tournament charity recipients, with each organisation receiving around $900 from the day.

A huge thank you to Bowls Warkworth and the Kittyhawks for your generosity and work in making this happen. Every dollar stays local and supports youth in our community to face challenges with more confidence and strive toward their goals 🙌

Mahurangi Matters - story on the increase in approved local grants - triple the number compared to 2 years ago.

"Much of this work is sustained through local generosity, including long-standing support from Warkworth Lions Club and passionate individuals within the Mahurangi community.

Bogue said the trust remains deeply grateful to donors and is seeking new supporters to help extend its reach further. 💛

These grants reflect the breadth of what we do - supporting local youth across health, education, sport, and culture. With the generosity of supporters like the Kowhai Coast Lions Club and the individuals who have donated, we’ve been able to provide wide-ranging help to ensure no local child misses out.

Thanks to special funding from the Rodney Health Charitable Trust, we’ve also been able to give vital assistance in the growing area of health-related applications, particularly for children with sensory and developmental needs.

💛 To every supporter: thank you. We want you to know that every dollar you give stays local, helping young people in our community reach their potential.

From the very beginning, Kowhai Youth Trust has reflected Dave’s belief in action, not talk.

Alongside its grant-making, the trust – with Dave, and now Ken Bogue at the helm – became synonymous with lively community events ("Money or the Bag!?"), often in partnership with groups like the Kowhai Coast Lions Club

A look back at what Dave Parker set out to achieve, and the contribution to youth in our community over the past 34 years.

In 1991, Dave Parker picked up the phone, called a few locals, and together they created Kowhai Youth Trust. His belief was simple: if a young person needs a hand, our community should be there for them - just as it had been for him.

After 34 years of service, Dave has retired from the board. His legacy is extraordinary: from school essentials to camps, music, sports, and health - the Trust has supported hundreds of local kids thanks to the path he set.

From all of us: thank you, Dave. We’ll continue the work you started, and ensure our local youth have every chance to thrive. 💛

Upcoming Season – No Kid Left Behind!

🏉 With around 1,000 local kids likely to take part in the Mahu Touch Season this year, it’s set to be another great season!

But we also know the cost of another activity - boots, gear, registration fees - may hold some families back. Thanks to passionate local donors who’ve told us “we don’t want to see any kids miss out,” Kowhai Youth Trust Warkworth can help.

👉 If you’re on the fence about signing your child up to a team because of the cost and possible strain it may place on your family situation, please reach out. Apply here: https://kcyt.org.nz/

Every child deserves the chance to play. 💛
