Heritage Mahurangi Inc

Heritage Mahurangi Inc We want to honor the past and encourage the preservation of historic landmarks and history. there is much to be achieved and to be proud of.

The Mahurangi Heritage & Culture Group has been formed to help support community efforts that are currently involved in the protection of all things of heritage & cultural value in the Warkworth/Mahurangi and surrounding areas. We are not only about our buildings of historic and architectural significance, but also the educational values of our town's history and the community’s association with established groups. A committee of enthusiastic community members has been appointed and a working group established to gain the support of all districtwide organizations that have an interest in our heritage values. The Mahurangi Heritage & Culture Group will work with the New Zealand Historic Places Trust in recognizing the twelve or so buildings and sites that already have approved category recognition. Moreover, several historic ‘events will likely be celebrated within our community over the next year or three. In addition to all this, you may be aware of Auckland Council’s proposal to press ahead with the removal of our town’s historic weir. The town has already spoken of the Council’s horrific and dictatorial act. Our group will give the support needed to protect & preserve our historic asset….
