Although it was a stunning day on land the Wild West Coast bar of the Manukau Harbour provided some challenging conditions for today’s call-out.

We joined forces in NZ Steel Rescue with Papakura Rescue One and Auckland air patrol to bring home a 6m vessel with 4 POB.

We crossed the bar with 2.5-3m swells and a 0.6m chop on top of that. Once through we made the challenging decision to leave the anchored vessel and safely bring home the people on board and go back for the vessel when the bar conditions were more favourable.

Once NZ Steel Rescue and Papakura Rescue One had safely made it back inside the Manukau Harbour the swell had already eased enough for us to decide that Papakura Rescue One could go back for the broken down vessel.

As we delivered the people safely to shore Papakura Rescue One made their way back out to hook up a tow line.

We went back over the Manukau bar to meet up with and guide Papakura Rescue One towing the vessel through a wild bar crossing to return the vessel home.

Papakura Coastguard Auckland Coastguard Air Patrol it’s always great working with you guys to achieve the best results.

🦁 Last night Waiuku Lions donated the funds raised from the recent Variety Show - a total of $5500 to our local coastguard towards their new boat build 🦁 (L-R) Waiuku Lion Kerry Dean, with Coastguard president Karl Dickey along with Tony Jefferies, also David Smith from Smithies Garden Centre 🦁
