Waitomo Caves Open Pig Hunt The Waitomo Open Pig Hunting Competition has been going since 2001. Joseph Paul Davis (aka JoJo) was a Waitomo local renowned for Pig Hunting.

He always wanted to hold a Pig Hunting Competition in Waitomo. JoJo died suddenly in 2001. JoJo passed away in April 2001. His 4 step-children Richmond, Robin, Trieste & Mama along with the help of close whanau & friends managed to pull off the first Competition in July 2001. . The second competition was in July 2002. After the 2002 competition, the children decided to hold the comp every two year

s (as getting sponsorship yearly can be tough). The Waitomo Caves Open Pig Hunting Competition has been a success ever since - obviously thanks to all the Hunters, Sponsors and Supporters! We do like everyone to know that this Competition was started in honour of our step father - Joseph Paul Davis. Most of all, thank you to all our Sponsors, whanau & friends who have helped us and still do help us with the Competition today.
