Theme: Ȧf'ȧk, putua, a'pumuạ'ȧk ma rak'ȧk 'os fäega ma 'os ag fak Rotuma, la se maoen 'e 'os tore - Treasure, nurture and teach our Rotuman language and culture so it may live on through generations.

𝐀𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐅𝐚̈𝐞𝐚𝐠 𝐑𝐨𝐭𝐮𝐚̣𝐦 𝐓𝐚
Fäeag Rotuạm Ta (the Rotuman language) belongs to the Western Fijian language group which is part of the Oceanic subgroup of Central Pacific languages. It is indigenous to Rotuma, a dependency of Fiji where it is a recognised language (although not an official language).

Rotuman is classified by the UNESCO as endangered due to a decline in speakers. Rotuman is considered by linguists to be an isolate, meaning a language with no close relatives. It is a very unique language which has been strongly influenced by Polynesian languages such as Samoan and Tongan, resulting in a number of
loanwords.

Anchored in 1977, rising into 2027 🌊

Just over two weeks on, our Young Pacifica’s from across the motu gathered for their National Youth Conference 2026 in Tāmaki Makaurau. From building sisterhood on Day 1, to growing through powerful talanoa, workshops, and leadership panels on Day 2, to visioning the future together on Day 3 ✨ Every moment reminded us of who we are and who we are becoming.

Anchored in 1977, Rising into 2027 isn’t just a theme, it’s a calling. A reminder that we stand on the strength of those before us, while boldly stepping into leadership for the generations to come.

A huge fa’afetai tele lava to the PACIFICA National Executive, the Youth Conference Committee, our incredible leaders, workshop facilitators, and panelists who poured into creating such a meaningful and empowering space 💛

PACIFICA Branch Spotlight: PACIFICA WHITIREIA BRANCH

A culturally grounded talanoa space in Porirua is supporting Pacific young women to better understand, recognise, and build healthy relationships.

Delivered by our Whitireia Branch, 𝑾𝒆𝒂𝒗𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝑺𝒕𝒓𝒆𝒏𝒈𝒕𝒉𝒔 – 𝑺𝒕𝒓𝒆𝒏𝒈𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑽𝒂̄ 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝑯𝒆𝒂𝒍𝒕𝒉𝒚 𝑹𝒆𝒍𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔𝒉𝒊𝒑𝒔 brought together young women aged 18–25 for a 2.5-hour workshop on 21 March. Funded by Pasefika Proud as part of the Pacific Collective network, this initiative supports the strengthening of safe, respectful relationships and wellbeing across our communities.

The session created a safe and supportive space for talanoa, where participants could openly explore relationships, wellbeing, and personal experiences - grounded in culture, connection and care.

We acknowledge President Leo'o Jenny Taotua-O'Carroll and her executive for their dedicated mahi alofa. Through initiatives like this, our organisation continues to strengthen the vā with our 'āiga and extended villages, ensuring our Pacific young women are supported, connected, and equipped to thrive.

A powerful opening to ! Grounded in Indigenous leadership, global commitment, and a shared call for accountability beyond the Conference.

The evening honoured the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung people of the Kulin Nation and set the tone for what’s ahead through the theme 𝑪𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒆 𝒄𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒔 𝒖𝒔 𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆. A reminder to reimagine systems, centre people, and ensure those most impacted are leading what comes next.

During the gift presentations, PACIFICA Inc. presented a siapo to the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung people of the Kulin Nation in Narrm, along with Doris Tulifau of Brown Girl Woke, and Louisa of American Samoa. The presentation was led in by Mereana Hond (MC of the evening) and by Miss Oriana Siva Academy, Painu'ulasi Leaupepe.

A special acknowledgement to our very own Mele Wendt MNZM (PACIFICA Inc. Vice President Central region), who served as the panel moderator for the 𝑅𝑒𝑠𝑜𝑢𝑟𝑐𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝐺𝑙𝑜𝑏𝑎𝑙 𝑀𝑜𝑣𝑒𝑚𝑒𝑛𝑡 session. Mele is also a member of the Women Deliver 2026 Regional Steering Committee.

This year’s theme, 𝑪𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒆 𝒄𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒔 𝒖𝒔 𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆 reflects the collective responsibility to advance gender equality and the rights of women and girls globally.

We acknowledge the strong delegation of our PACIFICA Inc. fefine to'a who are present, contributing Pacific perspectives, leadership, and lived experiences to important global conversations.

With the conference being held in our region, there is a meaningful opportunity to centre Pacific voices, particularly on issues that directly impact our communities, including climate resilience, equity, and access to opportunities for our women and young people.

We are proud to see Pacific women represented in these spaces; not only participating, but shaping the dialogue and direction of change.
