Kia ora Wairoa, we have teamed up with Tātau Tātau o Te Wairoa, Te Wairoa Reorua and The Gaiety Theatre this Te Wiki o Te Reo Maori.

On Monday 14 September, 12 noon, we will gather at The Lighthouse and walk along the footpath to Mānukanui Pa - Library Green.

Today Whetu Marama Makoro Marae hosted the Wairoa District Council Māori Standing Committee.

Hosting hui like this at our marae provides an opportunity for whānau of the rohe to come along, listen, participate in the kōrero and have greater involvement in matters that affect our communities.

We encourage other marae across Te Wairoa to connect with the Māori Standing Committee and consider hosting one of their future hui. Bringing these hui onto our marae helps make the kōrero more accessible to our whānau and strengthens the connection between our communities and local decision-making.

A positive day of kōrero, connection and participation at Whetu Marama Makoro Marae.

Notice is hereby given that a hui of the Māori Standing Committee will be held as follows:

Date: Tuesday, 25 August 2026
Time: 1.00 pm
Venue: Whetu Marama Marae

The purpose of the hui is to consider matters relevant to the Māori Standing Committee and its role in providing a Māori perspective and advice to Council, strengthening Māori participation in decision-making, and supporting effective engagement with whānau, hapū, iwi and Māori communities across the district.

A fantastic start to our 2026 Elections enrolment campaign.

Tonight we held our first Kai & Kōrero event in Frasertown, and it was great to see such a good community turnout.

Whānau came together to share a steak sammie, have a kōrero, and learn more about enrolling for the 2026 Elections.

We are pleased to share that eight people enrolled to vote during the evening. Every enrolment is another voice ready to have its say.

Tonight's event was proudly brought together by Te Hei Mauroa Foundation, Ngā Tokorima a Hinemanuhiri Trust, Tahuri Mai, and Te Wairoa. Together, we're helping make it easier for our communities to enrol, stay informed, and be ready to have their say in the 2026 Elections.

A big thank you to everyone who came along and helped make the evening such a success.
