In the Premier 1 grade Ulalei Aute (TIME Insurance) made light work of their game against St Orans Club, leading from start to finish to secure an impressive 55โ€“44 win. The margin could have been even greater if not for a number of unforced errors.

In the other Premier 1 match Ulalei Mฤlili (Hedz for Hair Salon) were involved in an intense battle with Naenae Collegians. The teams went goal for goal with the lead changing hands numerous times. Naenae Collegians held a narrow 20โ€“19 lead at halftime, but by the end of the third quarter Ulalei Mฤlili had edged ahead 28โ€“27. In the final quarter Mฤlili used their skills and experience to extend their lead and take the game 39โ€“35.

Ulalei Puฤlulu featured in the game of the round in the Senior 1 grade. After a slow start High School Old Girls led 19โ€“13 at halftime. By the end of the third quarter Puฤlulu had reduced the deficit to five goals trailing 26โ€“21. Enter the defensive unit of goal keep Moriah Sopoaga and goal defence Reaghan Faaifo who put the burners on and started picking off deflections, rebounds and intercepts, all beautifully finished by the goal shooters Carly Tapa, Leah Fisher and Shanรฉ Lotriet.

Puฤlulu fought back strongly to salvage a 31โ€“31 draw. This result could prove to be a turning point for the team, providing a much needed confidence boost. Coach Clayton Marino and assistant coach Lahraine Sagaga will be pleased with the progress shown by this team.

Ulalei teams recorded dominant wins in the weekend with Ulalei Mosoโ€™oi winning 35-26 over St Orans club. Ulalei Wainui J7s were too strong for High School Old Girls- 30-18. Ulalei Lagaโ€™ali were in command over Manaia Whanau 40-20. Ulalei Fuesina (Nuku Ora) remain unbeaten with an emphatic 47-25 victory over Upper Hutt Rams.

Meanwhile Ulalei Ifilele (Nuku Ora), Ulalei Nonu and Ulalei Teuila all hit a bump this week with losses but will look to return to winning ways in the next round. While Puataunofo (Muzzy Shirts) and Matalafi are working hard towards their first win of the sea*on.

Ulalei Wainuiomata Netball proudly acknowledges and sincerely thanks their valued sponsors G & S Roofing; Fast Flashing Solutions; Fine Touch Catering; Master Upholstery Experts Limited; Petone Foot Clinic and TJ Plumbgas

There were no games over the long weekend, but it was still a jam-packed few days for Ulalei Wainuiomata Netball with strong community engagement and service at the heart of it all.
The long weekend kicked off with the clubโ€™s annual and ever-popular Bingo Fundraiser held at the Wainuiomata Bowling Club, where a full house turned out in support. The atmosphere was lively with whฤnau, friends and supporters coming together for an enjoyable evening that highlighted the strong sense of connection within the Wainuiomata community.

Ulalei Wainuiomata Netball extends its sincere gratitude to everyone who contributed to making the event a big success. Special thanks go to the Wainuiomata Bowling Club for allowing Ulalei to share the clubrooms on their club night and to Ulalei Wainuiomata Sports for the use of their event branding gear. The fundraiser was further strengthened by the incredible backing of the wider community including 11 table sponsorsG & S Roofing Ltd, Fast Flashing Solutions Limited, Hedz For Hair Salon, Muzzy Shirts, Fine Touch Catering, Time Insurance, Master Upholstery Experts, TJ Plumbgas, Petone Foot Clinic, Ulalei Wainuiomata Sport, Dame Luamanuvao Winnie Laban & Vaโ€™a Family.
A further 28 local businesses donated generously allowing the winners to go home with some fabulous prizes - Coffee Strand, Cliveโ€™s Chemist, Pak n Save Petone, Hedz for Hair Salon, Shoe Clinic Lower Hutt, Bottle O Basket, Wainuiomata, Creative Meats, Gillies whanau, STIHL Shop, Hon. Ginny Andersen, Charlies Sushi, Light House Cinema Petone, Moana Road, Dawnbake Bakery, Petone Foot Clinic, Woolworths Wainuiomata, Matiu Rฤ“wena, Just Beauty @ Wainui, Joes Cook, Way of Life Fitness, Recovery Hub, Salute Hair Skin Spa, Speights Ale House Petone, The Victorian Tavern, McDonalds, Dominoโ€™s Pizza Wainuiomata, Pizza Hut Wainuiomata & KFC Wainuiomata

The Bingo Night is important for Ulalei Wainuiomata Netball helping to raise funds for equipment, uniforms and contributing towards essential costs such as umpiring at $200 per week and registration fees which cost $20,000 this year.

As the club continues to grow, this support allows the club to keep its fees low ensuring the opportunity to play netball remains accessible for all players and their whฤnau.

The following two days saw Ulalei continue its commitment to the wider community entering a team in the Relay for Life and raising funds for the fight against cancer. The club came together in a fantastic show of unity rostering members to walk laps at Hnry Stadium from 3pm Saturday through to 8am on Sunday morning. Players, coaches, managers and supporters were joined by their whฤnau all doing their part to support an important cause raising over $4,100.

Events like these reflect what Ulalei Wainuiomata Netball is truly about, community support and meaningful community engagement. Supporting the Relay for Life allows the club to give back and it also strengthens bonds across teams, building connections and unity throughout the entire club.

More than just a successful weekend it was a powerful reminder that Ulalei Wainuiomata Netball is more than a sports club, it is a village built on connection and service. The club looks forward to carrying this momentum through the rest of the sea*on, both on and off the court.

Ulalei Wainuiomata Netball encourages the community to continue supporting the businesses and groups who have so generously supported the club.

As Samoa Language Week is celebrated across Aotearoa NZ, Ulalei Wainuiomata Netballโ€™s weekend of giving back is an inspiring reflection of this yearโ€™s theme, โ€œE afua mai i mauga tetele manuia o le nuโ€˜uโ€ the success of the community comes from the strength of its people. From a packed fundraiser to walking through the night for Relay for Life, it was the collective effort of players, whฤnau and supporters that made it all possible. This is what Ulalei is built on: people coming together, supporting one another, and uplifting the wider community. Manuia le vaia*o o le gagana Samoa - Happy Samoa Language week.

Ulalei Fuesina has continued its unbeaten start to the sea*on with a commanding 44โ€“15 victory over High School Old Girls. They got off to a flying start leading 22โ€“9 at halftime, and stamped their authority on the game, only allowing the opposition to score six goals in the second half.

Fuesina is one of two youth development teams Ulalei Wainuiomata Netball is fielding this sea*on, made up entirely of secondary school players from Wainuiomata, the Hutt Valley and Wellington. The team is coached by Alofa Aberdein-Tapuaโ€™i, a premier netball player who also sits on the Ulalei Wainuiomata Netball Komiti and was elected this year to the Netball Hutt Valley Executive. The assistant coach is Poni Smith who also coaches the Sacred Heart College Premier 1 Coach as well as the U16s Hutt Valley Representative Gold Team.

Ulalei Wainuiomata Netball are grateful for the support from Nuku Ora - an active Wellington region which has enabled the rangatahi youth development teams to be properly equipped to train and play netball safely, while also developing the fundamental skills of the game.

Ulalei Lagaโ€™ali welcomed back coach Whiti Ritchie after recovering from surgery, celebrating the occasion with an emphatic 53โ€“10 win over Te Rito Hakinakina.

Ulalei Teuila returned to their winning ways with a 33โ€“24 victory over High School Old Girls, while Ulalei Wainui J7s muscled their way to a 28โ€“20 win over Tautoko Aiga Maualuga.

There are no games this weekend due to King's Birthday but it is a busy weekend for Ulalei. It is hosting its annual and very popular Bingo Night at the Wainuiomata Bowling Club on Friday 29 May 2026 at 6pm. The club is also participating in the Relay for Life on Saturday and Sunday raising funds in the fight against cancer. For more details email [email protected].
