⭐ SPONSOR SPOTLIGHT – KELSO GENETICS ⭐

From paddock performance to BBQ precision – the Kelso team know how to deliver both.

Kelso’s roots go back to the ‘70s, when Roger Marshall started building something different at Tututotara. These days, the operation is based out of Lunesdale in Hawke’s Bay, where the Bibby family continue to push the boundaries with a no-nonsense approach to breeding sheep that perform where it counts.
It’s not just about breeding – it’s about thinking differently. Kelso’s programme blends stockmanship, science, and innovation to produce rams built for real-world farming systems.

The Kelso team are a great bunch to deal with and a massive part of the rural community here in Hawke’s Bay.

Huge thanks to the Kelso team for their ongoing support of Surfing for Farmers – we really appreciate you backing the crew and what this is all about!

Lets give a massive thanks to Resene ColorShop Hastings for supporting Surfing for Farmers Waimārama.

The Hastings Resene ColorShop is on Southland Road and offers both colour consultant service with a Resene Colour Expert and PaintWise, which accepts unwanted paint and paint packaging. It’s bloody good to have well-known local businesses backing grassroots community events like ours.

We really appreciate your support. It helps us keep the good vibes rolling each week and gives our local farming community a place to connect, breathe out, and enjoy a bit of saltwater therapy.

Thanks again to Resene Hastings for getting in behind Surfing for Farmers.

A big thank you to PGG Wrightson Livestock – Neil Common and team for supporting Surfing for Farmers Waimārama.

PGG Wrightson describes its livestock business as New Zealand’s largest livestock industry service provider, with services spanning auctions, private sales, on-farm transactions, specialist stud stock sales, genetics expertise, sheep and beef trading, and online trading platforms. That depth of experience makes them a trusted part of the rural sector.

We’re hugely grateful to have Neil and the team getting behind our local Surfing for Farmers community. Support like this helps create space for farmers to connect, clear the head, and remember they’re not in it alone.

Thanks again for backing the farmers and backing this community.

A big shoutout to Croplands Spray Shop for backing Surfing for Farmers Waimārama.

Based in Hastings on Omahu Road, Croplands Spray Shop is a true one-stop sprayer shop, offering spray equipment, parts, servicing and support across agriculture, horticulture and viticulture. They’re also an authorised Croplands service agent, which makes them a pretty handy crew to have in our corner.

We’re stoked to have local businesses like this getting behind our farming community. Your support helps us keep creating a space where farmers can come down, have a surf, have a yarn, and reset a bit.

Thanks heaps to the team at Croplands Spray Shop for supporting what we do.

⭐️SPONSOR SPOTLIGHT – KELSO GENETICS⭐️

From paddocks to plate, spreadsheets to sizzling sausages – Kelso Genetics brought the heat a couple of weeks back to Surfing for Farmers, with Matt Holden and Olivia Ellis behind the BBQ like two seasoned stud breeders at ram sale day – calm under pressure, sharp with the timing, and making sure everything was well presented and cooked to spec.

Kelso’s story goes way back to the ’70s, when founder Roger Marshall started mixing things up with composite sheep at Tutu Totara. These days, the whole operation’s based at Lunesdale in Hawke’s Bay, where the Bibby family run a slick, no-fuss setup that punches well above its weight. Over the years, Kelso has developed a breeding programme that combines stockmanship, science, and innovation. They believe in thinking differently and challenging the status quo to produce rams bred for performance, not breed.

Matt Holden, co-owner and all-round good bu**er, has been with Kelso since ’96 and knows a thing or two about both rams and ribeyes. He’s your man if you’re unsure what’s going in your paddock or on your plate. And Olivia Ellis, who keeps operations humming behind the scenes, is the kind of person who can manage a breeding programme and a BBQ without breaking a sweat.

Huge shoutout and thanks to the Kelso crew for supporting Surfing for Farmers – you’re legends on the land and on the tongs.

Massive Shout-Out to a Bloody Legend: Mark Houston!

We want to give a huge shout-out to Mark Houston, a retired ag pilot, aviation safety expert, and now a retired surfer, for his incredible generosity. Mark has donated two surfboards and two wetsuits to our Surfing for Farmers programme—helping more farmers get out there, catch some waves, and enjoy the mental reset that the ocean provides.

With a legendary career spanning over four decades in aviation—from aerial application and flight operations to aviation safety and regulation—Mark has dedicated his life to keeping our skies safe. Now, he’s giving back to the farming community in an entirely new way, and we couldn’t be more grateful.

Mark will be joining us tomorrow evening for a beer and a sausage, so if you see him, be sure to shake his hand and thank him for his support.

Mark, you’re an absolute bloody legend—thank you for everything! 🏄‍♂️🔥🍻
