What a weekend! Last Saturday, 54 wāhine from across the Coromandel and Bay of Plenty joined us for Wahine on Water, a development day run by Eastern Region SLSNZ giving girls a supportive, women-led space to build their IRB skills.

Our Waihī crew then turned it into a full Wahine Weekend: a sunset run up the coast, fish and chips, a club sleepover, and waffles and Pilates the next morning. Not a bad way to spend the weekend.

A huge thank you to SLSNZ | Eastern Region for a brilliant event, our water safety team for holding it down on the water, and Hiria for feeding everyone and leaving the club spotless. 🙌

Watch the beach this Summer - our young wāhine lifeguards are raring to nail their Crew and IRB Driver modules!

Seen these on the beach? Learn what Public Rescue Equipment (PRE)is, where to find it, and how to use it safely. Come along to our community education session this Sunday 21 June, from 2.00pm to approximately 3.30pm.

Includes an educational session on rips, hazards, and what to do in an emergency, followed by a short surf safety briefing for strong swimmers who want to participate in a practical session. Those wishing to take part in the practical session should bring wetsuits.

A very special congratulations to our Eastern Region Service Award recipients. These awards recognise years of dedication, service, leadership and quiet mahi behind the scenes. Our club is built on people like these who give their time, skills and heart to surf lifesaving, our members, and the wider Waihī Beach community.

Congratulations to Rian Butler, Aron May, Madeleine Schnackenberg, Natalie Lloyd and Christiaan Maarhuis. We’re incredibly proud to see your contribution recognised at a regional level.

The awards will be presented at the BoP & Coromandel Awards of excellence Night on 25th July.
