🎉 Congratulations Gerald Carter – Upper Hutt Civic Award Recipient! 🎉
A huge bravo to Gerald Carter of St Joseph’s Scout Group, who was honoured last night with a Civic Award from Upper Hutt City in recognition of his outstanding service to our community.
For an incredible 58 years, Gerald has been a guiding force in the lives of young people – through Scouting, education, and community leadership. From starting as a 9-year-old Cub in 1966 to leading the St Joseph’s Venturer Unit for over 37 years, Gerald’s commitment has shaped generations of youth.
His leadership style empowers young people to grow in confidence, independence, and resilience. Under his guidance, an impressive 72 Venturers have earned the Queen’s (now King’s) Scout Award – more than any other unit in the country!
Gerald’s impact goes far beyond tramping and rafting. He’s supported national and international expeditions, mentored global citizens, and inspired excellence both in Scouting and in the classroom as a long-serving mathematics teacher at Heretaunga College.
From organising fundraisers to volunteering at Scout aviation schools, performing in Gang Shows, and serving on the Brookfield Scout Outdoor Centre board since 2007 – Gerald truly embodies the Scout spirit.
👏 Congratulations Gerald – your service, dedication, and heart have left a lasting legacy in Upper Hutt and beyond. This Civic Award is richly deserved!
