Chinese Conservation Education Trust - CCET Auckland The purpose of CCET is to foster a love and understanding of New Zealand's special places, plants an The Trust's work is vital.

The Auckland region's population is expected to double in the next 50 years and will be strongly multicultural. This growth and diversity of cultures will put huge pressures on the values New Zealanders place on open spaces and special conservation areas. Already many areas of coastline are bare of shellfish and fish numbers are decreasing in the harbours. The Department of Conservation
The trust

is working in partnership with the Department of Conservation (DOC). DOC's job is "to conserve New Zealand's natural and historic heritage for all to enjoy now and in the future". This means the Department is responsible for ensuring these special places still exist when our grandchildren are old.

为了鼓励资源再利用、减少不必要的丢弃与消费，华人环保教育信托基金（CCET）将继续举办「缝纫维修咖啡馆」 活动，由义工协助社区居民修复旧衣物。

To encourage resource reuse and reduce unnecessary waste and consumption, the Chinese Conservation Education Trust (CCET) will continue to host the "Sewing Repair Cafe" event, where volunteers will assist community residents in repairing old clothing.

📆 Date: June 26, 2026 (Friday)
Held on the last Friday of every month

⏰ Time: 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Stop accepting repair items at 12:30PM

📍 Location: CCET Centre: 27 Telford Ave, Mt Eden
*To the right of the Good Shepherd Church

👕 Services:
Repairing old clothes
Zipper replacement
Trouser alteration
Clothing resizing, etc.

⚠️ Important Notes:
Held on the last Friday of every month.
Stop accepting repair items at 12:30PM
Maximum of two items repaired per session
Please bring your own zippers, buttons, or other extra materials

-We provides basic materials: paint, glue, canva, waste paper.
-Children can bring their own eco-friendly decorative materials, such as leaves, branches, scrap fabric, waste(recycled) materials, collage item, yarn, etc.
-Themes are open, children can brainstorm their themes at home beforehand, saving time and making their creations more efficient.
-Only 14 families can participate (first come, first served).
-Each family can only have one child participate.
-Children aged 5 to 12 (parents must accompany them throughout the activity).

一塊補丁背後的時代反思縫紉咖啡館的啟示

在一次縫紉維修咖啡館活动裡，那天我看著 10 位車衣義工在縫紉機前專注地忙碌著。長桌上排著 20 多件被時代和主人「淘汰」到邊緣的舊衣物，我不禁感到一絲沉重，在這個快時尚氾濫的年代，丟棄一件衣服的成本太低，低到我們幾乎忘記了製造它們所消耗的地球資源。然而，當天我們的義工硬生生地把這些舊衣物從垃圾堆填區的邊緣搶救回來。這不僅僅是一個數據，更是一場對抗「用完即棄」文化的微小卻堅定的抗爭。

M小姐的聖誕願望

在那群等待修補的人中，M小姐的身影引起了我的注意。我們認識好多年了，她本身也是一位熱心環保人士，但這卻是她第一次親自帶著物品來求助。她手中緊緊攥著的，是一件她最珍愛的粉紅色睡衣。她無奈地說，這件衣服之前在別處修補過，但很快又破了新的洞。

我注視著我們的義工接過那件單薄的睡衣，她沒有草率地縫合，而是極具巧思地在破洞底部墊上了一塊塊的布料，仔細地為它重新加固。當這件重獲新生的睡衣回到M小姐手中時，她眼裡閃爍的光芒令我無比動容。她笑著說：「這下這件睡衣可以再多陪我好幾個聖誕節了！」

惜物，是我們對未來的道德責任

M小姐這句感嘆，敲醒了我對當下生活方式的深刻反思。為什麼我們CCET現在需要如此費力地推廣「環保」？因為現代社會的便利，徹底麻痺了我們對物質的敬畏之心。我們習慣了以極低的價格買入，再以極快的速度丟棄，卻無視了地球正在為這種無度的貪婪買單。

看著那塊縫補得密密麻麻的補丁，我想起了中國古老哲學中「惜物命」的智慧。古人常說「新三年，舊三年，縫縫補補又三年」，這從來不只是一種因為物質匱乏而產生的無奈妥協，而是一種極高的道德自覺。每一件物品都凝聚著自然的恩賜與勞動者的心血，隨意踐踏剝削，便是一種罪過。M 小姐為了一件修好的舊睡衣而感到的喜悅，戳破了消費主義的謊言：真正的滿足感，不來自於無休止的購買與佔有，而來自於我們與物品建立的長久羈絆。

CCET拯救的不單單是那些舊衣物，而是我們逐漸失落的、對這個世界的責任感與敬畏心。

Beyond the Patch: Reflections from a Sewing Repair Café

At a recent Sewing Repair Café, I watched 10 dedicated volunteers bent over their sewing machines, working with quiet focus. Lined up across the long tables were over 20 garments—items cast aside by both their owners and the times. Seeing them left me with a heavy heart. In an era dominated by fast fashion, the cost of throwing away clothes has become dangerously low; so low, in fact, that we've completely lost sight of the planetary resources drained just to create them.

Yet, that day, our volunteers literally pulled these old garments back from the brink of the landfill. This was more than just a statistic—it was a small, yet fierce rebellion against our throwaway culture.

Ms. M’s Christmas Wish

Among the crowd waiting for repairs, Ms. M caught my eye. We’ve known each other for years, and while she’s a passionate environmentalist herself, this was the first time she had brought in an item of her own to seek help. Clutched tightly in her hands was her most cherished possession: a pink pair of pajamas. She sighed, explaining that she had tried getting them repaired elsewhere, but the stitches hadn't held, and new holes had quickly appeared.

I watched closely as our volunteer took the flimsy fabric. Instead of just hastily sewing the tear shut, she thoughtfully layered pieces of backing fabric beneath the hole, meticulously reinforcing and rebuilding the garment. When the restored pajamas were finally handed back to Ms. M, her eyes lit up with a joy that truly moved me. Smiling warmly, she said, "Now this pajama will keep me company for at least a few more Christmases!"

Cherishing What We Have: A Moral Duty for the Future

Her passing remark struck a chord, triggering a deep reflection on how we live today. Why does CCET have to fight so hard just to promote the concept of "sustainability"? It’s because the sheer convenience of modern life has completely numbed our reverence for the material world. We are so used to buying things dirt cheap and tossing them aside just as fast, entirely blind to the fact that the Earth is paying the ultimate price for our boundless greed.

Looking at those dense, intricate stitches, I was reminded of the ancient Chinese wisdom of cherishing the life of objects (惜物命). The old proverb says, "Three years new, three years old, sew and patch for three years more. (新三年，舊三年，縫縫補補又三年)" This was never just a reluctant compromise born out of material scarcity; it was a profound moral awakening. Every single object is a culmination of nature’s gifts and human labor—to trample upon and waste them is a true transgression.

Ms. M’s pure delight over a patched old pajama shatters the illusion sold by consumerism: true fulfillment doesn’t come from endlessly buying and owning, but from the enduring bonds we build with what we already have. Ultimately, what CCET rescues isn't just a pile of old clothes; it is our fading sense of responsibility and reverence for the world around us.
