Thanks to everyone who attended the mid-winter lunch 🍽️🍷but especially to The Social Committee❕Stellar job on organising a really enjoyable, festive, & relaxed get-together.

Nibbles, the shared dishes for both the main course & dessert provided by all, were plentiful ❕& absolutely delicious.

Mulled w**e & the odd extra bottle flowed as much as the conversation.

Its such occasions that underpin the value of social connection, engagement & fun…. & belonging to the Turangi-Southern Lakes Probus Club 😉

If you came to the Probus meeting on June 12th you were treated to an inspiring presentation from Geraldine Tooman, the new Manager of the Tongariro National Trout Centre. Her talk which focused a lot on the community importance of the Trout Centre, her plans for increasing the educational value it can provide, & how important continued volunteer support is, prompted a really lively, interactive discussion.
Our thanks again to Geraldine for taking the time to present & meet with our club.

REMEMBER …. our July meeting is on Friday, 17th July & is going to be a fun get-together over a mid-winter lunch. 🍷🪩🍗🥗Look out for a Probus Club email for further details ❕

John Ball’s presentation to our Probus group at this months meeting was an enlightening glimpse into a pivotal part of Turangi’s history, centred on the 15+ years it took to complete the Tongariro Power Project. We learnt so much about the skill & grit & tenacity of the tunnellers, Italian & Kiwi alike, who carved out the 30 miles of tunnels through unbelievably difficult & dangerous conditions unique to the volcanic Central Plateau. These men, & their families, played a huge part in our community’s history & it is reassuring to see that their stories are not lost thanks to the efforts of John Ball & the documentaries he has produced.
