Today our community was very blessed to have in our presence the team from Waikato Bowel Screening. Willow and Teariki provided us with a very informative and engaged educational sesson bringing awareness to Bowel Screening.

The session was throughly enjoyed by everyone. We finished with health checks done by our team at SWPICS & a hot soup.

FRIDAY - A*O FARAILE
The proverb of the day is: “Ua o gatasi le futia ma le ‘umele.”
This proverb refers to traditional food preparation, where tools must work smoothly together to be effective. It symbolises unity, alignment, and working with one purpose.
It’s a reminder that success comes when people move in the same direction. When teams communicate well and support each other, everything becomes easier and more productive.
Quick fact: In the 2023 Census, 101,937 people reported being able to speak Samoan, showing strong language retention across generations. Samoan has three main speech levels, chiefly, formal, and informal. Each level is used in different settings and reflects Samoa’s strong cultural values around respect and social hierarchy.

THURSDAY - A*O TOFI
The proverb of the day is: “O le tele o sulu, e maua ai figota.”
This saying comes from traditional night fishing, where groups used multiple torches to attract fish. The more people involved, the more successful the catch. It’s a metaphor for teamwork and shared effort.
It highlights the value of collaboration. When people bring their skills, ideas, and energy together, the results are richer, whether in a classroom, workplace, or community project.
Quick fact: Samoan is spoken not only in Samoa, but also widely across Aotearoa, Australia, the United States, and American Samoa, making it one of the most widespread Polynesian languages. Samoan is an official language of Independent Samoa and American Samoa.

"A logo tai, ua logo uta" teaches us that what affects one person affects us all.
Like in Tenor - my name is Pati, let us be proud of our identity, support each other, and create positive ripples that strengthen our whole community.
For our Te Manava students from Tokoroa High School, "Tai ua logo tai, ua logo uta, what is felt in the ocean is also felt on the land" reminds us that our actions, words, and choices create ripples that reach far beyond ourselves.
We celebrate Samoan Language Week by standing proudly in our identity, honouring our culture, speaking our language with confidence, and showing kindness, respect, and service to others because when one person rises, the strength, courage, and love they carry can uplift an entire community.
