Night Sky Viewing with telescopes at Titirangi Beach.
A Titirangi Urban Sanctuary free community event. All welcome!

Come and explore the night sky with Titirangi Urban Sanctuary and the Auckland Astronomical Society. Titirangi Beach Friday 30th of October from 8pm.
This will be a dark sky night with no moon. We will have astronomical telescopes set up near the playground away from the street lighting at the car park. The sun sets on the 30th at 8:00 PM, so viewing will be best from around 8:30/9:00 pm on.

As night falls, the planet Saturn with its rings will be rising in the north east and in the south west the constellations of Scorpius and Sagittarius will be viewed. Both of these constellations have wonderful deep sky objects only visible in telescopes within them.

Bring a jacket and a blanket and meet at the TUS Gazebo set up in the glade beneath the Kahikatea trees near the car park. We will guide people down to the telescopes using red light torches so that your night vision is preserved. Please avoid shining torches in the area.

We will have astronomers from the Auckland Astronomical Society who will point out objects in the sky and share some of the wonders of time and space with you.

This event is weather dependant. If the clouds or rain makes viewing impossible we will advise cancellation on Facebook by 6pm on the day.

SPRING = BEE SWARMING SEASON. Swarming is a natural process for honey bees and you may see swarms on your property from now until December. Help is at hand! The Auckland Beekeepers Club can be contacted on 021 620 716. Their bee loving members will collect a swarm for free. The swarm will be relocated and given a new home.

Donner House and gardens.
A rare opportunity to walk the grounds of the architecturally significant and heritage listed Donner House. The home built in 1947, is considered to be the country's finest example of International Modernism.
Owner Paul Jenkins has been working the garden for nearly 30 years.
The garden sits within a stand of mature native trees and winds through brick and crazy paving paths created by Donner to support the slope. Artist studios and other outbuildings create an artist’s enclave. A large vegetable garden is located to the rear of the house and a formal lawn area sits to the front of the house.

Native plants now available to purchase at Refill Nation in Titirangi Village.
Grown with loving care by volunteers at our nursery, we hope that this new source of plants will be convenient for locals and encourage more native planting in the area. All proceeds from sales directly support our work.

Thank you to Grace and Jackson, the Refill Nation owners, your support has been amazing and very much appreciated.

This Saturday evening, a group of intrepid walkers were led by guides down through the Zig Zag track in the dark. We were Inspired to do the walk after meeting with Annette Lees and reading her wonderful book 'After Dark'.
With red light torches creating minimal lighting, the group had a magical journey through the track past titiwai / glowworms on the track and under the glorious forest canopy.
Sincere thank to Annette Lees for sharing her joy of the night with our group and to the Titirangi Urban Sanctuary team, who pulled off a very special event.

Grab a friend and join our garden tour! Explore a curated collection of ten stunning private gardens. With landscaping, views and locations you rarely see, this will be an inspiring day. There will be artist studios to visit, plants from the TUS nursery for sale, and food and refreshments at selected garden locations.

Tickets are $50 each. All proceeds go to the Titirangi Urban Sanctuary to support our work in the local environment.

Meet the Artist! A surprise afternoon tea and a chance for our Co-chair Bruce to meet Xavier, his portrait artist and pupil at Titirangi Primary School.

We were pleased to learn that a $300 donation to Titirangi Urban Sanctuary was to be made as part of proceeds from this wonderful, community building exhibition.
