Welcome Jean to the team

Jean has been in the role since August 2026 and is based in the VMSC Timaru Office, Community House, 27 Strathallan Street, Timaru.

Her experience of working with volunteers, community and organisations comes from Community Development roles of significance with Mackenzie District Council, Clutha District Council and the Kaitangata Community Development Programme.

Believing that communication, collaboration and connection are key to building robust meaningful community engagement, Jean brings to the role a genuine passion for and belief in people, organisations and the collective community.

Career long aims and achievements have been to enable people to realise their maximum potential, build robust programmes and sustainable outcomes. This she looks forward to continuing with VMSC.

Jean loves living in South Canterbury and has called it home since October 2023 when she and her husband Barry relocated from Clutha District to be closer to family.

Jean is in the office Monday to Friday.

We are looking for Volunteer tutors to support 7-9 year olds with literacy at St Joseph's Catholic School, Tinwald School, Ashburton Christian School and Lagmhor School. Time commitment is 4 hours each week, March-November, two mornings. Full training will be given and we will supply everything you need.

Ever thought you wanted to be part of something bigger than yourself? Hospice Mid Canterbury are looking for some volunteers to help some of their clients write their biographies. 3 hours a week for 5-7 weeks. More details can be found https://connect.vmsc.org.nz/roles/1357

Then we have the volunteer role for you.
We have migrant men and women in these areas who need some assistance in learning to drive. This is such a rewarding role and you get to make a huge impact in someone's life.

❤️ A Heartfelt Farewell ❤️

After nearly four wonderful years, I have made the decision to step down as Manager of Volunteering Mid & South Canterbury.

I love the job and the people I worked with. It has been a privilege to work alongside so many amazing volunteers, community organisations, and supporters. Thank you for your passion, kindness, and commitment to making a difference in our communities.

While I am leaving this role, I’m not leaving the community. I will continue my work with Multicultural Aoraki and look forward to staying connected and collaborating with Volunteering Mid & South Canterbury in the future.

Thank you for the friendships, support, and memories. It has been an honour to be part of this incredible community. ❤️
