Happy Mother’s Day to all the mums and mother figures in our crew, our families, and our community.

Volunteer rescue work doesn’t happen without people willing to give their time, skills, and energy to help others — and many of those people are mums balancing a lot both on and off the water.

Today we’re recognising the wahine who answer callouts, support their crews, keep things running behind the scenes, and continue showing up for their communities. Thank you for everything you do.

From all of us at Coastguard Canterbury, we wish you a safe and happy Mother’s Day. 🌊💐

Last Sunday Ian Towed a very special boat to its new home; The Alexandra Lifeboat Built in 1862 and shipped to Timaru where it began Saving lives at sea in our area, the boats have changed but the mission remains the same (Saving life's on the water) and to all our Volunteers that make it possible, past and present we thank you for your dedication.
The Timaru host lions Club took on the project to build a new home for the Alexandra and have done an amazing job to complete and show the boat to the public for many years to come.

Crossing a bar can be tricky, but with the right knowledge, you can feel more prepared and confident on the water. That’s why our Bar Awareness Roadshow is back - and it’s totally free! 👍

From September through December, we’re teaming up with the New Zealand Sport Fishing Council Inc to run 30+ seminars across the country, helping boaties upskill and build confidence around coastal and harbour bars.

You’ll learn:

✅ How to read bar conditions
✅ What to look for on weather forecasts and tide charts
✅ How to log bar crossing reports
✅ From Coastguard volunteers and fellow boaties sharing real stories and local advice

Whether you’re just starting out or you’ve been boating for years, it’s a great chance to sharpen your knowledge and make good decisions out there! 🚤
