Labour to commit to repealing the Fast-Track Legislation and Revoke All Fast-Track Mining Consents granted under the fast-track process.

The Fast-Track is a War on Nature Many of the proposed fast-track projects threaten conservation land - ecologically essential landscapes which have been placed under protection for future generations. Many places around the country are specifically excluded from being able to be sold under this crazy bill, but not the Coromandel.
Actually, they copied Schedule 4 from the Crowns Mineral Act (which protects places around the country from mining, including the Coromandel), but specifically removed Coromandel from the protected list!
The bill is targeting us! And we must stop it!

We are shocked at the Government's proposed Conservation Act reform. The Bill they have produced shows just how out of touch with kiwis they are, and how little value they have for our incredibly unique environment. As well as introducing requirements to 'maximise economic development' in DOC land, it also leaves most of it - including Te Tara o te Ika a Maui the Coromandel Peninsula open for exchange or disposal (SALE!!!)! This is wrong, shocking and wrong. This would mean that a mining company could literally buy public conservation land, land that has not been available for Treay settelments because it 'belongs to the people', land that may have gol, but is also habitat for threatened species, the headwaters of clean, clear rivers and creeks that flow into some of the most loved and visited beaches, for mining. To turn into a dirty, toxic, mine site, to leave toxic tailings on, to rill and drive on, to effectively destroy! We will fight this - as we have fought before - who remembers 2010, when the Key Govt tried this one?! So get ready, get informed, and watch this space. Aotearoa is not for sale Conservation land is not for sale. It really is !

Great news for Waikoropupu and Sam's Creek!! ❤️❤️❤️🎉🎉❤️

Kia ora all, here is the latest

We the community won. Te Waikoropupu and Sams Creek will be protected from Siren Gold and their plans to mine Sams Creek.

This afternoon I got a call from Nina Hindmarsh a reporter on stuff. Nina told me Siren Gold's application for a mining license has been declined by NZPAM (New Zealand Petroliam and Minerals) a government department which is able to act independently of the Goverment. They enforce the rules around mining permits.

Nina told ma Siren Gold did not reach the necessary legal threshold of proof so they were declined. Thats it.

This is incredibly good news.

I am super grateful for our legal team who are in the process of challenging Siren Gold in the High Court.

I am grateful for those who fund our legal challenge which is ongoing.

I am grateful to SOS'S committee past and present for the hard work they put in

I am grateful to the Sams Creek Collective and their research and analysis.

I am incredibly grateful to the Mohua community and the festival community who stood strongly against the mine.

I am grateful to the Top of the South communities, in Tasman, Nelson and Marlborough who stood for Te Waikoropupu against the miners.

I am grateful to our support nationwide, and international support.

Te Waikoropupu (and now Sams Creek as well) are known, loved and protected.

Um, eww. folks, this company is in the process of buying the permit formerly held by Zealandia.... we will update when we know more, but ick. Oh, and , there is NOT a good relationship with community here. Zealandia wasn't welcome, and neither are you!

While tailings dams are meant to last for ever, extreme weather events are making many unstable – with devastating consequences for nature and humans

Destroying some of the most unique and special habitats with coal mining, for a one-off burst of dirty energy that directly harms the whole planet as our habitat - IS INSANE!!

And again today… we love these places and we cannot just go about our day knowing that these people are coming in and drilling, knowing that they are preparing to mine an area that we all know and love! ❤️
Was really neat to have some good conversations with locals at our meeting the other night, and we will continue to raise awareness that this activity is happening - cause the miners sure aren’t 🙄 as usual… so, if you are going past and we happen to be there, give us a toot! If you’re a local and want a sign, let me know, if you just know the place and love it- tell everyone else you know about it, cause Puketui sure is too precious to mine!!
