Waste Management NZ was selected by TCDC to deliver the next 10 years of waste services in our district, starting September 2023 to September 2033.

The good news, a weekly food waste collection will be one of the new services!

It’s important that we ensure processing of this food waste RE-SOURCE remains local.

More info here

Waste Management NZ has been awarded the solid waste contract to run our district’s Kerbside collections, Refuse Transfer Station operations and implementing a food waste collection, for the next 10 years starting in September 2023.

Before long in Thames-Coromandel!
Kerbside food waste collection is starting in September 2023.

We also want to ensure processing is local, and businesses and organisations are included.

The people of Tauranga have halved the amount of household waste being sent to landfill 12 months after a new kerbside system was put in place in the Bay of Plenty city.

Hi everyone, please take 2 min to make a submission, it can make a major difference!
And please consider the following proposals. There is a box in the survey where all of this can be pasted and proposed:

Local processing of food waste - not driving food waste to Waikato.

Pay as you throw - not a blanket rate that incentives people to throw more.

Council gets its own waste in order - showing a gold standard example.

Publicly available regular reports on waste minimisation performance in relation to set targets - adding council accountability to the waste strategy.

Local management of RTSs - using local knowledge and expertise, community drive, and enthusiasm.

Waste Management and Minimisation Bylaw, like in many districts, driving behaviour change.

Construction waste recovery facilities, and a bylaw that requires large building projects to submit waste management plans that drive contractors to use these construction waste recovery facilities.
