🚒 Training tonight focused on water supply!

We placed the portable pump and suction hose in the river to fill the portable dam, then used the B-type ejector pump to supply the truck🚒 From there, water was delivered to the Blitz ground monitor 💦 before being returned to the river.

It was a great practical exercise, bringing the entire water supply system together — and our VSO’s were very happy with the result! 💪🔥

Another solid night of training for the Whatatutu crew.

For the first time in ages, we had the whole brigade together! 🚒. Sometimes crew aren’t able to make training or working nights, so it was really special to have everyone together for a photo. Feeling very lucky and proud to be part of such a great crew.

🚒 Celebrating 3 Years of Service – Whatatutu Volunteer Fire Brigade 🚒
Saturday evening, we celebrated three of our crew members reaching their 3-year service milestone at our UFBA Awards Evening, held at The Vines @ Bushmere.
Certificates were presented by Karl Scragg, UFBA Board Director and Chief Fire Officer of Manutuke Fire Brigade.
Our Brigade Leader, Sally Cale, thanked the recipients for their commitment, dedication and willingness to give up their evenings, weekends and family time to train, respond and serve our community.
A special acknowledgement was also given to our support crew member, whose contribution behind the scenes is just as valuable as those who turn out on the truck.
Kayne also delivered a heartfelt speech, thanking the Brigade Leader and VSOs for their ongoing commitment to training, guidance and mentoring. This was followed by a beautiful waiata performed by whānau, making the evening even more special.
There is no one-size-fits-all way to volunteer. Every role, every skill and every contribution helps keep our brigade operational and ready when our community needs us.
Congratulations to all three recipients. We are proud to have you as part of our Whatatutu Volunteer Fire Brigade family and look forward to many more years together! 🚒❤

🚒 Tonight’s Training – Water Supply & Delivery 💦
Tonight, the crew headed down to the river for some hands-on training, putting our portable pump to work supplying water to the fire truck, before taking it one step further with a delivery being hauled aloft up a ladder. 🚒💦
With our VSO and trainer Francis and Steve on hand to oversee the exercise, the crew had a great opportunity to practise their skills, build confidence and strengthen teamwork and communication.
Another productive night of learning, putting our skills into practice and ensuring we’re ready to respond when our community needs us.
A big thank you to our VSO and trainer for their support and guidance. 👨‍🚒👩‍🚒

Thanks Mikaere for being our photographer tonight 📸

🌟 Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori – Māori Language Week! 🌟

Today’s fire safety kupu is one we all need to know:

🚪🔥 FIRE EXIT – WHATINGA AHI 🔥🚪

A whatinga ahi is a safe way out of a building if there is a fire.

When your smoke alarm sounds, don’t stop to collect belongings — get out, stay out and call 111. 🚨

🏠 Take a moment today to check your whare:

👉 Do you know where your nearest fire exit is?
👉 Does everyone in your whānau know two ways out?
👉 Is the pathway to your exits clear?
👉 Do you have a safe meeting place outside?

🔥 Remember: your safest exit is the one you’ve already planned and practised.

Make your 3-step escape plan today and practise it with your whānau:

Today’s fire safety message is about being prepared before you need to be.

🚪🔥 ESCAPE PLAN – MAHERE RERE 🔥🚪

When a fire starts, every second counts. Having an escape plan means you and your whānau know what to do, where to go and how to get out safely.

🏠 Make a 3-step escape plan:

1️⃣ Know two ways out of every room where possible.
2️⃣ Choose a safe meeting place outside your whare.
3️⃣ Practise your escape plan with everyone in your whānau.

🚨 And remember — when the smoke alarm sounds, get out, stay out and call 111.

Don’t wait until there’s a fire to work out what you’re going to do.

🌟 Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori – Māori Language Week! 🌟

Today’s fire safety message is all about something small that can make a big difference:

🚨 SMOKE ALARM – PŪOHO AUAHI 🚨

Your smoke alarms are there to give you an early warning when there is a fire in your whare. They can give you those precious extra minutes to get yourself and your whānau out safely.

🔥 Don’t wait until it’s too late.

Take a few minutes today to:
✅ Check your smoke alarms are working
✅ Make sure you have smoke alarms in the right places
✅ Test them regularly
✅ Make sure everyone in your whare knows what the alarm sounds like
✅ Have a 3-step escape plan and practise it with your whānau

For our rural communities, being prepared is especially important. Make sure everyone knows two ways out and where to meet once safely outside.
