Te Awamutu Jersey Cattle Club

Te Awamutu Jersey Cattle Club Est in 1922. Members come from Te Awamutu, Cambridge, Otorohanga and surrounds, to enjoy discussion

The Te Awamutu Jersey Cattle Club was established in 1922 with some founding members originating from the pre-existing Paterangi Jersey Club. We have a long history of families and individuals who have enjoyed the breeding of jersey cattle; as well as the strength of the social connections within the Club. On a monthly basis, with the exception of August & September, our Club holds a Discussion Gr

oup, usually held on the second Tuesday of the month on a Club members’ farm where informative and relevant industry /farming topics are discussed usually with a guest speaker specialising in the topic of the day. The host farmer also has the opportunity to show any cattle that may be of special interest to the group. Our Discussion Group has been active for many years and a lot of effort is put into this programme to continue to make it worthwhile for everyone. Our Club Executive Committee is made up of Club members who are happy to give some of their time to help organise our annual Club cattle shows, social activities, the Discussion Group, Club trips, seminars or other activities that we see would benefit or be of interest to our membership and promote jersey breeding within our local farming communities. We even have a group of older members who are affectionately called ‘the last of the summer wine’. This group have a huge combined experience of jersey breeding and add a depth to our Club which we cherish. Our younger members energise the Club and keep producing good cattle. We have a wide range of farming practises within our club membership and enjoy the diversity. The older members are happy to support new and/or younger club members by mentoring, teaching how to groom cattle for showing and give support in other ways if required.
