Did you know?

When you support Te Muka by getting your lawns done, you are doing more than just helping maintain your property you are helping create opportunities for our rangatahi.

Every job completed helps our young people gain valuable life skills, build confidence, develop a strong work ethic, and gain real-world employment experience in a supportive environment.

Te Muka was created with the vision of “Growing our Future” every lawn mowed, section cleared, and job completed helps make that vision a reality.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support our kaupapa together we are helping grow pathways for rangatahi into employment, training, and brighter futures.

It’s been a huge week here at Ko Wai Au!

With Youth Week in full swing, we’ve had an awesome line-up of activities celebrating our incredible rangatahi and the value they bring to our hapori. Keep an eye out for some video highlights next week.

Monday kicked things off with our youth getting into the kitchen for some baking. We had Konrad here from konny da cutz giving the tama some haircuts.

Tuesday saw our Cambridge High students take part in Mana Whatu Āhuru.

Wednesday had our Tama Tū, Tama Ora boys out enjoying pickleball and testing their skills at the driving range.

Thursday was all about celebrating our rangatahi with a fun-filled day of team challenges, kai, CrossFit, and a gaming competition.

To wrap up the week, our Mana Whatu Āhuru boys participated in a Pure session on Friday.

Alongside all of this, we continue our core mahi of supporting the rangatahi and whānau across our rohe alongside Te Muka going strong, with the team hard at work out on the lawns.

Youth Week is for everyone. It’s about noticing and valuing the ways young people shape our hapori and the world around us. Joining in the celebration means honouring the mana and energy they bring every day.

This year’s kaupapa, “Our Voices Matter, We Deserve to Be Heard,” is all about creating space for rangatahi to express themselves in ways that feel right to them, through kōrero, creativity, culture, leadership, and everyday actions.

So, we handed the camera over to our Mana Whatu Aahuru boys and set them loose around Lake Ngaroto 📸

Seeing the world through their lens reminded us that youth voice comes in many forms, sometimes loud, sometimes quiet, but always important.

A huge shout out to the amazing team at the Lions Club of Cambridge for coming on board as one of our newest sponsors.

Not only are they doing incredible things within the community, but their op shop (26B Vogel Street Cambridge) is definitely worth checking out too! If you are in Cambridge, make sure you pop in, support local, and have a browse - you never know what treasures you might find.

We are so grateful to partner with an organisation that shares the same passion for giving back and strengthening communities!!

Introducing our newest kaimahi, Jabez!

Today is a special milestone for Ko Wai Au Trust and our social enterprise Te Muka. Jabez is officially our first rangatahi employee, not just work experience, but paid employment. This has always been the dream behind Te Muka.

Te Muka is guided by the vision “Growing our Future” we create opportunities for rangatahi to build confidence, develop life and employment skills, and gain real-world work experience that supports long-term pathways into employment and training.

We are incredibly proud of Jabez and all the hard work, growth, and determination he has shown to get to this point. We are also so proud of our Te Muka team for continuing to create some really cool opportunities for our rangatahi.

Welcome Jabez, we are excited for your journey ahead! 👏

Over the past two weeks, our kaupapa has continued to grow and create meaningful opportunities for our rangatahi. We’ve kept up our Thursday mornings at Cambridge High, strengthening connections and consistency in our space.

Our next cohort of Tama Tū, Tama Ora kicked off with the Te Miro Pango workshop, setting a strong foundation for the journey ahead. We also had our fortnightly visit to the Food Forest in the Pekapekarau Reserve, where our rangatahi continue to learn, connect with te taiao, and give back to the environment. Don't forget to get in and harvest some kai - Take what you need and leave what you don't.

Out in the community, our rangatahi have been gaining valuable hands-on work experience alongside TA through Te Muka, building skills and confidence for their future pathways. Back in the kitchen, another round of cooking education has supported practical life skills and hauora.

We have a huge month of May ahead!
