✔️ Sensory regulation.
✔️ Abstract thinking.
✔️ Verbal communication and social interaction.
✔️ Engaging in learning that doesn't seem relevant.

What a wonderful week we’ve had to end the term at TK!

From dance parties and dress-ups to Easter crafts and our scavenger hunt, our tamariki have been busy learning, creating, and celebrating together. We also enjoyed a special visit about road safety, a fun trip for music and movement, and took time to acknowledge Autism Awareness Day 💙.

Wishing all our whānau a safe and happy Easter 2026🐣💛

Today, I took a small group of children for a walk down to Future Te Aroha for the Easter Show. We started by having a play and looking in their infinity room. When it was time for the show, we walked down and sat on the stage. We got to watch the shadow puppets and listen to a story. Once the story was finished, the children got to have a turn with the puppets and make shadows with them. After this we explored some of Future Te Aroha and had a look in the glow room. We then decorated an Easter egg picture, listened to a story and then had a look through another area where we searched for eggs and bunnies. The children enjoyed finishing off with a dance party.
A big thank you to Future Te Aroha for inviting us down to the show and to our parent helpers – Erica and Amy.

One of the highlights of our week at Te Aroha kindergarten is Ninja Gymnastics—and our tamariki absolutely love it! Every visit is full of energy, laughter, and determination as children climb, balance, jump, and explore the exciting obstacles.

They are always so keen to go again, excited to try new challenges and cheer each other on. It’s not only a lot of fun, but it also helps build confidence, strength, coordination, and resilience.

A huge thank you to our wonderful parent helpers who make these sessions possible, and to Piako Gymnastics for providing such a fantastic, engaging programme for our tamariki. Your expertise and support make every visit safe, fun, and inspiring!

If you’re looking for a kindergarten that combines learning, adventure, and fun, come see why our tamariki can’t wait for their next Ninja Gymnastics adventure!

Today I met some children at Elstow-Waihou School. We went to visit Mr Scott in The Beehive Room. When we got there, we sat on the mat, sung a song and had the opportunity to introduce ourselves and tell everyone what our favourite animal is. The children partnered up with a buddy and got to go on a scavenger hunt – they had to find a quiet place to read, the toilet, where they put their book bags, the teachers chair and so much more. After this we got to explore the classroom and the outdoor area. It was great to reconnect with some of our old kindy friends and also make some new friends.

It was great to have the opportunity to visit Elstow-Waihou school and for the children to become familiar with the school they will be attending. A big thank you to all our parents who came along and to Mr Scott for allowing us to come into his classroom for a visit.

We’ve had a fantastic week of rich, purposeful learning here at kindergarten. From excursions and music to hands-on experiences like carpentry and kai preparation, our tamariki have been building confidence, creativity, and independence in meaningful ways. Outdoor challenges, water play, and collaborative moments continue to support their growing skills and connections. We also shared a special farewell, wishing Ivy all the best as she begins her school journey 💛

What an awesome Friday morning for our kindergarten tamariki!

We headed to Te Aroha Primary School to take part in their Perceptual Motor Programme — an incredible opportunity our children get to experience every week. In fact, our kindergarten has been lucky enough to be part of this programme for over 20 years!

This programme supports children to develop balance, coordination, confidence and important physical skills, while also helping them build familiarity and connections with our local school environment. Experiences like this make the transition to school feel exciting and positive for our tamariki.

We even enjoyed a big walk there together… although the sunshine definitely made it a hot one ! ☀️

We feel so proud to offer opportunities like this that support our children’s learning, wellbeing, and strong connections within our community.

If you would like to learn more about our kindergarten and the opportunities we offer our tamariki, feel free to get in touch or come and visit us!

As we get ready for our fundraiser this Sunday at the local fishing competition, we would like to say a huge thank you to all of our wonderful Te Aroha kindergarten families, friends and local businesses who have generously contributed groceries for the food we will be selling.

From sausages, meat, bread, butter, lettuce, tomatoes and cheese, to chips and other essentials — your contributions are helping us put together meals for our food fundraiser for the day and keeping costs low so we can generate lots of money for kindergarten resources.

It’s always so special to see our community come together like this. Thank you for helping make our fundraiser possible. We are incredibly grateful for your kindness, generosity and support.

We will share an update next week to let everyone know how it all went. Kia Ora.

Today a small group of children went to Stanley Ave School for a visit. We met outside the gates and headed in to Room 11 – Mrs Finucane’s class. After a quick mat time, we played with some of the toys. It was neat to reconnect with some of our old kindergarten friends. After playing for a while, we went back to the mat for a story. Then it was time for a brain break – outside we went to play on the playground.

It is great to have the opportunity to visit our local schools often and for the children to become familiar with the school they will be attending.

A big thank you to all our parents who came along and to Mrs Finucane for allowing us to come into her classroom for a visit.
