Kia ora wonderful people.

Today our Tawa Firefighter Skytower Team raced up the Skytower in full firefighting kit to raise funds and awareness for Blood Cancer NZ. They pulled some awesome times going up the Skytower and have raised $2557! A big thank you to everyone who donated and supported our team over the past year, we couldn't have done it without it you!

We want to introduce you to another one of our Skytower team members for 2026; Henry! He has written the following introduction for himself -

Kia ora team!
I’m Henry Lang, firefighter and Tawa Volunteer. This year I’m taking on the Firefighter Sky Tower Challenge for the 3rd time to support Blood Cancer NZ.
Every day, 8 Kiwis are diagnosed with blood cancer β€” and over the past few years, I’ve lost both an uncle and an auntie to cancer‑related illness. So this climb is personal. I’m doing it for them, and for every whānau fighting this battle right now.
Training has been full‑on: circuit training, hose drills, BA climbs up Mt Kaukau, runs with the dog, and hills + bike rides with my son. Every session reminds me why this matters.

We just wanted to pass on a update from today's fundraising adventures.

The team managed to raise $289 in cash and an additional $195 through online donations, totalling to $484 raised today! Thank you so much to everyone who donated today, we really appreciate it. πŸ‘¨β€πŸš’ All proceeds will be going directly to Blood Cancer NZ.

Kia ora wonderful people.

We just wanted to come on here quickly and share some dates we will be fundraising out at Wellington Airport this month for Blood Cancer NZ. The first fundraising day kicks off this morning (photos to come later)! ✈️

Then we will also be fundraising out at the airport on the 18th, 19th and 26th of March. πŸ”₯πŸ‘¨β€πŸš’

If you are at the airport on any of those days feel free to come say hello to us and ask us any questions you may have about firefighting or the Skytower Challenge. We have lots of super cool stickers as well!

Kia ora wonderful people!

We hope you have had a lovely festive season and a happy New Year so far.

As it's a new year some exciting changes have been made to our Skytower team that we wanted to inform you about. This year our team consists of four super keen climbers who will be racing up the Skytower on the 23rd of May, helping to raise funds for Blood Cancer NZ.

The first super keen climber we would like to introduce you all to is Operational Support Firefighter, Kieran.

Kieran has been a part of the Tawa Volunteer Fire Brigade for three years now and this year will be his second time climbing the Skytower. Go Kieran!

When asked what his motivation for participating in the Firefighter Skytower Challenge is he replied; "I love to help people and make sure everyone has a fighting chance to get the help they need, and I want to offer my help in any way I can."

When Kieran's not out on the fireground or raising funds for Blood Cancer NZ you can find him hard at work as one of the crew on Metlink's train service or spending time with his friends watching a good movie or playing video games. πŸ§‘β€πŸš’
