🌟 We're on the final stretch of our Rangatahi Leadership Programme! 🌟

Over the past few months, our rangatahi have been exploring who they are, building confidence, strengthening leadership skills, connecting with their culture, and shaping their aspirations for the future.

As we approach the final wānanga, we want to celebrate the incredible growth, courage, and commitment shown by our rangatahi throughout this journey.

💬 Whānau support plays a huge role in the success of our rangatahi. We encourage whānau to stay involved, ask questions, celebrate achievements, and help our young people continue pursuing their goals and dreams beyond the programme.
Together, we are nurturing the next generation of leaders, innovators, entrepreneurs, kaitiaki, and changemakers.

✨ Kia kaha, kia māia, kia manawanui. The journey doesn't end here – it's only the beginning.

Watch this space as our rangatahi prepare to showcase their learning, leadership, and aspirations for the future.

Got an idea? Awesome.
Don't have one yet? That's okay too.

This Matariki, we're bringing together rangatahi, mentors, innovators, and leaders to explore big ideas that could make a difference for our people, our communities, and our future.

You don't need:
❌ Business experience
❌ A business plan
❌ All the answers

You just need:
✅ Curiosity
✅ Creativity
✅ Passion for making a difference

Before the Pitch on 27 June, you'll be invited to attend our Mentorship Wānanga on 20 June - a supportive and encouraging space where you can share your whakaaro, explore ideas, ask questions, and learn alongside other rangatahi.
Our mentors are there to help build your confidence, strengthen your ideas, and support you to step into Pitch feeling prepared and empowered 💪🏽

Need inspiration? Start with one of these challenges:
💡 How can we strengthen connections between rangatahi and kaumātua?
💡 How can we better protect our taiao for future generations?
💡 How can we create more opportunities for rangatahi?
💡 How can we strengthen te reo Māori and our cultural identity?
💡 How can we help our whānau thrive?

🤝 Learn from Māori leaders and innovators
💰 Prizes and opportunities available
🔥 Open to rangatahi ages 13+

This isn't about having the perfect idea.
It's about having the courage to explore one.
Matariki is a time to look to the future.
What future do you want to help create?

📢 Ngāti Pūkenga General Manager Appointment

Mauri ora e te whānau,

We are pleased to advise that Waireka Walker has been appointed as the new General Manager of Ngāti Pūkenga Iwi ki Tauranga Trust.

Waireka will commence full-time into the role from mid-August to allow a smooth transition from her current mahi.

As part of this transition, Waireka has resigned from her role as Deputy Chair. We look forward to supporting her as she steps into this important operational leadership role for our iwi.

Trustees would also like to acknowledge and thank Jen Haua for her contribution as General Manager. Jen stepped into the role at a time when the Rūnanga was still finding its feet and many of the systems, processes and operational structures we now have were still being developed. Although it was somewhat of a bumpy road, Jen’s love for our people remained steadfast and she has helped lay important foundations for the Rūnanga.

Over the coming months, Waireka and Jen will work together on the transition and determine what ongoing role Jen may have in supporting the Rūnanga moving forward.

Please join us in congratulating Waireka on her appointment and supporting her as she takes on this important role for our iwi.

✨ Join us as we continue our series of wānanga focused on reconnecting with and revitalising the treasured waiata of Ngāti Pūkenga and Ngā Pōtiki.

These evenings are an opportunity for our whānau to come together in unity — to strengthen our reo, deepen our understanding of tikanga, and reconnect with the stories, whakapapa, and meaning behind our waiata and mōteatea.

Whether you’re confident in waiata or simply wanting to learn, all ages and abilities are warmly welcomed.

📍 Next Wānanga: Wednesday 27th May
📌 Ngāpeke Marae

Led by our whanaunga Nia and Aunty Titihuia, come along and share in an evening of waiata, learning, and whanaungatanga.

☕ Doors open from 5:15pm for a kapu tī
🎶 Waiata begins at 6:00pm

Nau mai, haere mai e te whānau.

He whakamaumahara nā runga i te aroha, kia manaaki tonu tātou i tō tātou urupā me te whenua e noho tata ana.

Over the weekend, there was an incident involving fireworks being let off near Otukōpiri urupā. While this may have been unintentional, fireworks can cause significant distress and harm to horses and other stock in the surrounding area. Our Riding for Disabled whānau have long resided on this whenua and respected our tikanga, in turn, we should respect theirs.

We ask that everyone continue to show whakaaro nui and respect when visiting or spending time nearby, including being mindful of the impact fireworks and loud disturbances can have on the taiao, animals, and the wider community.

Ngā mihi
