Tauranga Jazz Society

Tauranga Jazz Society Tauranga Jazz Society invites membership from people with an interest in jazz music. For more information go to the society’s events page: jazz.org.nz.

The club organises the National Jazz Festival and National Youth Jazz Competition held every Easter in Tauranga, NZ plus a jam night on the last Wednesday every month. The Tauranga Jazz Society’s history goes back to 1962 when Tauranga musicians began jamming on a Sunday afternoon in a local hall. Over half a century later the Society is a solid community of jazz and blues musicians who are best known for hosting the Easter Tauranga National Jazz Festival and the National Youth Jazz Competition. The society has a monthly live music event on the last Wednesday of each month at the Mount Social Club with a house band and guest players. The first Jazz Jam was held in November and was a huge success thanks to the combination of great music, good company and the fantastic atmosphere created by the staff at the Mount Social Club. The aim of the nights is to provide entertainment for followers of jazz while also enabling younger members and musicians to meet, and to foster the exchange of musical ideas across the generations. We welcome members of the Tauranga Jazz Society as well as others with an interest in the jazz art form and are pleased to partner with the Mount Social Club to present Jazz Jam. New members welcome.
