National Youth Jazz Competition

National Youth Jazz Competition The National Youth Jazz Competition is part of the National Jazz Festival held at Easter every year.

Secondary school students from around NZ compete as part of a Big Band or Combo group for awards and trophies. The National Youth Jazz Competition has been part of the National Jazz Festival for 44 years. Currently both Big Bands and Combos from Secondary Schools all over New Zealand compete for trophies and prizes. The competitions are held in Tauranga and take place at the beginning of the National Jazz Festival at Easter. Many musicians who won at the National Youth Jazz Competition are making their living through music today both in New Zealand and overseas.
