Day Four NZSC 2026
Day 4 got off to flying start with 3 of our bravest souls attacking their 200 Butterflys with vigour. Mackenzie led the attack with a 3 second drop to claim the silver and qualify for the B final. In the final she made a pacing adjustment - which is still a work in progress. Young Matthew followed with a 2 and a half second PB to move up the ranks to 5th. Logan carried on the attack grabbing a 6 second PB to move from 10th to 6th in his age group. In the C final Logan replicated his heat swim with an identical finishing time and stroke counts.
The 50 Backstroke was a little patchy with Rylee, McKenna, Harry and Fletcher all mere fingernails off of PB although a miss timed turn, an extra deep start and some lane rope hugging may have undone some solid shifts. Fletcher despite being 0.09 off his PB still demonstrated his prowess claiming the age group Bronze. Mitch carried on his Backstroke form; PBing and claiming the Age Silver. He also qualified for his third A final of the meet where he backed up well to hold his Open rank.
Today saw the last of the breaststroke events with "fresh" swimmers Alyssa, Max and Tom swimming great PBs and Alyssa claiming another top 10 time - 7th in her age group. Mackenzie fought hard and pushed early but the 200 Butterfly caught up with her and she finished 0.45 off of PB and 8th in her Age group.
The last event of another long morning was the 200 Freestyle. Rylee, Matthew, Fletcher and Zandré kept the PB party rolling with McKenna, Fletcher and Zandrè all claiming top 10 spots. Zandré just missed the age group medals but qualified for the B Final where he worked on controlling the front end speed to attack the back end. Matilda finished her meet demonstrating a high understanding of the pre and post race processes and holding all of her swims within 1% of her AIMs Games times. Harry still mid recovery after sickness earlier in the week gave it a bold nudge but there is more recovery on the way. Mitch raced his 200 aware of the limitations of his shoulder and moderated his pace to finish 8th before scratching the final - an in emergency break glass moment.
Due to yesterdays technical malfunction the 4 x 50 male relay was rerun this morning. The lads (Harry Mitch Fletcher ZandrΓ©) got up and raced it well with 3 of the 4 cracking the 25 mark and placing 11th overall.
Tonights 4 x 50 medley relay saw the girls put together a solid swim to hold their entry ranking. The boys lifted their ranking with a strong swim comfortably taking out their heat.
