Official Information Act responses throw up interesting stats.

See these tables regarding Temporary Protection Orders going final because they went undefended, compare that to Temporary Protection Orders that were defended.

Defending is definitely worth the effort. You will learn a lot about the process, and more importantly you will also learn an awful lot about yourself.

A good lawyer will give you the proper legal advice. Our KND team can give you the support and strategy to manage the protection order, as well as coaching you to work towards an eventual discharge. But you will have to put in the work.

We can also assist by providing supervised contact to keep meaningful contact occuring between child and parent.

If you are a parent that requires this education and support, please contact our team.

Welcome back, it's 2026 and we are back to providing regular peer-support for our clients.

Our Tuesday evening local meetings continue to be held at 7.00pm every week, join us there at 538 Fraser Street in Greerton. Our good friends at Good Bi***es Baking provide the baking.

There are a few changes to our National Online Peer-Support Meeting on Thursday evenings (7.30pm start). We are no longer delivering via Zoom and will change to Teams. A pre-meeting check-in form will get you into the meeting:

There is also a link for these meetings on our homepage at www.knd.org.nz

This change is a reflection that the peer-support we deliver to our dads also acts as a powerful su***de prevention service. The coaching and tools we provide also helps to prevent family violence and keep everyone safe.

Our final Stepping Stones course for 2025 starts on Monday. If you or someone you know are going through a separation (or considering it), this free online course is ideal to prepare and learn all about the traps and what to do/not to do.

Better to educate yourself early in the process and not make the common mistakes, as well as get an insight into the legal process. We will also cover the impotence of your own self-care and conduct.

Here are some interesting numbers. A published OIA request shows a continually increasing trend for self-represented parties in family court proceedings. At KND we have been assisting families and those parents who find that their only realistic option is to self-represent. We often act as Lay Assistants (McKenzie friends) for these parents.

The approach we take is to assist both our client and the Court, as it is recognised that self-represented parties impose an extra drain on Court time and recourses. Hence, the reputation of KND advocates as helpful brokers for parents who have become alienated from the Court system, and who are struggling to understand the process, and the substantive principles upon which the Court acts.

12th October is Parental Alienation day in Australia and New Zealand. If this is something you, or some other parent you know is experiencing, then we can help.

Fun fact: International Parental Alienation day is 25th April. As that falls on our ANZAC Day, Australia and New Zealand chose today instead to mark Parental Alienation awareness.
