It’s volunteer week, so we would like to take the opportunity to thank all of the volunteers who keep our club humming along.
Special congratulations go to our club secretary Glenys, who has received a Neighbourhood Spirit Award from the City of Moonee Valley as acknowledgement for all of the “above and beyond” contributions that she makes for our club. Thank you Glenys!

We hope that you and your furry buddies are keeping cool today.
Please PLAN AHEAD for the scorcher that’s coming our way tomorrow. With temperatures not expected to drop below 40 degrees until after dark, if your dog insists on exercise, it will be a day for early morning walks and cool inside games. (See below for how much joy an inside game can bring your dog on a hot day!)
Pop that kong in the freezer now so it’s ready. 🙂
Make sure that your dog always has access to plenty of water and a cool location.

EXTREME WEATHER WARNING:
With today’s temperatures expected to reach 40 degrees + remember not to exercise your dog in the heat of the day. If you must exercise your dog do it before it heats up or in the evening when it cools down.
Make sure your dog has plenty of water and shade.
Look after yourself and your dog.
Check in with elderly friends and relatives to ensure they have a plan to cope with extreme heat.
Avoid going out in the extreme heat.

With today’s forecast please remember that heat stress is very dangerous for dogs.
Make sure that they always have access to water and shade.
Please don’t walk dogs in the heat.
When it does cool down, if you are taking your dog out, make sure that the footpath is has cooled enough to hold your hand on, so that it doesn’t burn your dog’s paws.

With the summer heat well and truly with us it is a timely reminder that dogs cannot not cool their bodies as efficiently as humans. Heat exhaustion in dogs can be catastrophic.

1. Avoid exercising your dog on hot days
2. If you must exercise your dogs do it in the cool of the morning before the heat sets in or wait till it cools down in the evening
3. Make sure your dog has access to plenty of drinking water
4. If your dog is outside make sure it has access to shade
5. Beware of hot surfaces, bitumen, concrete, artificial turf etc, can get very hot in direct sunlight. If you can't hold the back of you hand to the surface and keep it there for 5 seconds it is too hot for your dog and they will burn their paws
6. Best of all try and stay indoors with your dog.
