Please make sure your boats are all serviced and checked and ready to go. We, along with Tauranga Yacht and Power Boat Club - TYPBC are running a seminar for you to learn what to do if you are left "Suddenly in Charge". ⚓️ CELEBRATING OUR PEOPLE ⚓️

Another year has rolled by, which meant it was time for our AGM on Wednesday night.

It was a great evening of reflection - celebrating the year that’s been, recognising the people who make it all possible, and looking ahead with plenty of excitement for what’s to come.

A special part of the evening was celebrating many of our volunteers who have reached significant milestones in their service to Tauranga Volunteer Coastguard 💙

A very special mention goes to Rex Harrison, who has been part of the Coastguard family for an incredible 25 years!

We were fortunate to have Jacqui Patterson, a member of Waihi Beach Coastguard and the Coastguard New Zealand Leadership Board, join us to present Rex with his 25-year certificate and Gold Chevron, recognising this remarkable milestone.

Rex was also added to our Honours Board, marking his 25 years of service and the contribution he has made to Coastguard over the years.

Well done, Rex - and thank you for everything you have given to the organisation 👏⚓️🌊

🌒 Another great night of training with our Radio Operators and crew! 📻🚤

This time we headed out onto the harbour at night, giving us a completely different perspective on navigation.

We practised identifying channel markers, leading lights, flashing sequences and what they mean for boaties navigating their way around Tauranga Harbour. Plus we got to experience the fantastic new search lights installed on Tect 👍

With the many lights around the busy Port of Tauranga, it certainly keeps our Skippers and crew on their toes!

Great training, teamwork and learning from our dedicated volunteers. 💙🚤

Our thanks to Gareth, Rob, Stephen and Fraser for volunteering to take the radio operators out, we have a new appreciation for what you and all our crews do, you’re all stars 🌟 🙏💙 🚤 🛥️ 🌊 🌒

🔨⚓️ A BIT OF MUCH-NEEDED MAINTENANCE UNDERWAY! ⚓️🔨

There’s plenty happening around our boat shed and buildings at the moment as we work through some much-needed maintenance to keep our facilities in great shape.

We’ve recently redone the waterproofing, and thanks to the awesome team at Winstone Aggregates, we’ve been able to refill the backfill against the wall. A huge thank you for supplying the drainage metal and for supporting what we do 💙

Support like this helps us maintain our facilities and, most importantly, helps keep Tauranga Volunteer Coastguard operationally ready to respond - any time of the day or night 🌊🚤

We really appreciate having local businesses behind us and supporting our volunteers and the work we do in our community.

🛟 A small group of Tauranga radio operators visited the Coastguard NZ Operations Centre on Tuesday for a hands-on look (& play) at the Frequentis system, that will eventually be in our radio room.

🛟 Thanks to Melissa Ousey for organising the visit, Jeff and Mark for the great demo and info, Andrea the duty radio operator, for putting up with us in the temporary comms room 😆 and to James and Nico for the updates.

A worthwhile trip to Auckland and we appreciated the time everyone gave us.

Also a shout out to Breana from Auckland Coastguard who showed us onboard the Auckland Vessel, Lion Rescue 🛟 🛟 an awesome asset. Great timing 👍
