Men's Bay League - First Team
We were eager to put the demons of last year behind us with Papamoa where they took all 6 points from us. Our goal this game was to secure points. The boys had fire in their eyes pre-game, determined, hungry but the plan had to shift when we stepped foot on the very small field. We opened the scoring in the 1st half through some great link-up play from our midfield. The half was drawing to a close when their wandering striker found himself in-front of our back line but also found the back of the net, and we went 1-1 into the half. 2 quick goals from our right wing saw us take the lead 3-1. Late in the second half their striker found himself in front of our line. He received the ball, shot and scored but they were offside and the final score was 3-2 to the boys in blue. We now sit top of the table with Taupo.
Goals - G Clarke 1, M Laurence 2
Assists - C Park 1, S Sutcliffe 1, M Warrender 1
Man of the match - E Little

Men's Bay League - Second Team
Our second team played Papamoa old boys at Gordon Spratt this weekend. We went into the game with high hopes of putting a win on the board after improvements week-on-week. We struggled again for numbers with no subs available, but the boys dug deeper and took an early lead that we just kept extending. The boys didn't take the foot of the gas once, and finished with a 6-2 win. Well done boys. Time to push hard and continue on through the season.

Our club was sad to hear that this season has started with some behaviour that doesn't reflect our values, or those of WaiBOP Football Federation.

At Blue Rovers, we stand for inclusion and the love of Good Football. We want everyone to feel welcome and safe at our club.

From Karyn Walters, CEO of WaiBOP.

“At WaiBOP Football, we are proud to be part of a diverse and inclusive football community. That comes with a clear expectation — there is no place in our game for racism, violence, or homophobic slurs.

We believe football should be a space where everyone feels they belong. Respect for each other — on and off the field — is fundamental to the spirit of our game.

We ask everyone across our community to stand together in upholding these values and to speak up if something isn’t right. If you see or experience behaviour that does not reflect our standards, please report it through your club or directly to WaiBOP Football so we can follow up.

Together, we can ensure our game remains safe, welcoming, and respectful for all."

Women's W-League Team
This week the team had another away game against a tough Cambridge outfit. The girls started flying out the blocks and scored two early goals. Something which is becoming a good habit for the team scoring early in each of their first three league games. Lani opened the scoring after rounding the keeper and slotting away. A quickly followed second goal came from Eva after good work down the left side. Cambridge came out firing but a strong midfield display from Skyla and Harrison kept the home team at bay but after a lot of pressure Cambridge were able to claw the game back to a 2-2 draw with ten minutes to go. The team rallied really well and continued to cause problems, and after more good work in the top third of the field we were able to get the 3-2 winner directly from the corner. The three points were well deserved as we head back to the Bay with a win secured.

Men's Bay League - First Team
First home game in the regular season for the lads and they were keen to put on a good show. Waiariki came to the Blue Fortress looking to carry on their winning ways. We opened the scoring off a set piece corner but they quickly countered just prior to the half. 1-1 going into the break. The boys came out of the changing sheds in the second half looking like a new team, fire in their eyes they quickly put another 4 goals past the visitors. Warrender scoring his first ever hat trick. 10 minutes to go and they scored, then 2 minutes later a dodgy ref call saw a penalty conceded and converted. They then struck again with 2 minutes left on the clock, the lads dug deep to keep their pressing attack out. Final score 5-4 win to the boys in Blue.
Goal Scorers - C Park 1, J Martin 1, M Warrender 3.
Assists - S Sutcliffe 3, E Little 1, J Martin 1
Man of the Match, M Warrender

Men's Bay League - Second Team
This weekend we faced Te Puke at home. We had a great game were we really started to come together, a win was close this time and the boys pushed hard, unfortunately a late defensive blunder saw Te Puke take the lead. We are pleased with the result, we are moving in the right direction and growing as a team every game. Well done boys the W won't be far away. Final result. 3-4 loss. Well done to Jono for getting man of the match.

There have been some draw changes at Waipuna Park for 8th & 9th Grade Mixed and Girls teams due to a council decision affecting field availability.

If your team is playing at Waipuna Park on Fields 1, 2, or 3, please check the updated draw, as some game times and fields have changed.

We always recommend checking the draw on Friday afternoons for any late updates.

If you have a girl in your family who is keen to improve in soccer, Little Rovers is our new programme for 8th and 9th grade (8th grade is girls born in 2018; 9th grade is girls born in 2017), a precursor to our Development teams, which begin in 10th Grade.

This programme is designed to complement the new playing formats for 8th and 9th grade this year: 5-a-side with goalkeepers on larger fields and goals, as compared to those of previous years.

Held over terms two and three at Pemberton Park, the programme is for girls who prefer a female-only environment and is taught by a female coach, overseen by our Director of Football, Chris Acott.

Sign up online and we will see you on Friday ⚽🎉

The New Zealand Football Junior Level 1 Course is being held in Tauranga next week.

The Junior Level One Coaching Award is for coaches working with 9 – 13-year-old players and provides a great introduction to skill development. The course focuses on understanding the specific needs of this age group, building fun and inclusive environments, and developing players' skills through fun activities and games.

The theory part of this award is done online through NZF Learn, and should take around 2 hours to complete.

Ideally, you would complete the theory before the practical session (sign up online).

Training is being held at the Tauranga FC clubrooms (130 Links Ave, Mount Maunganui) on Friday, 15 May 2026 @6.00pm
