Its a big day for Issy today. After a year and a half she is finally going back to school. Today is her first day of College as the last year had all been remote learning. She was full of nervous excitement this morning but ready to go.

Well a year ago today our Issy was having the biggest operation of her life to remove the rust from her leg.

From leaving hospital a month after surgery, to learning how to navigate Issy being completely non weight bearing with lots of nerve pain. To being told months down the track that without more surgery Issy wouldn't be able to bend her knee.

We made the decision to wait and see if Issy could gain improvement with the help of her amazing physio and are so pleased we did.

After not being able to walk for nearly a year Issy has been working hard to get back on her feet.

She has surpassed her specialists recovery expectations as at the beginning they gave a best case scenario for Issy to be able to bend her knee to 92 degrees. Well Issy has managed to get to 115 degrees and is still improving.

Issy set a goal with her physio back in July to be able to walk out on Christmas day with no assistance for a short distance. In true Issy fashion she has already achieved her goal and gets around the house with no wheelchair or crutches.

We are in awe of our beautiful Issy as we reflect on what she has been through this past year and could not be more proud of how she has dealt with everything.

The road to recovery is still a long one but each day we see improvements and feel blessed to have our Issy Bee.

We have been so lucky to have had everyone's support through a very life changing time and will be forever grateful to you all.

I thought I would add a small clip of Issy trying to lift her foot off the bed focusing on using only her knee muscles and not just focusing on the bigger thigh muscles and hip. Something that for most of us we don’t even think about but for Issy who has not used her left leg since July last year and had her big muscles all cut and stitched back together takes intense concentration and patience.

It has only been in the last month that she has been able to get her leg to lift off the bed at all and she is using the exercises given by her physio to get her muscles moving so that hopefully soon we will be able to start learning to put some weight back in her legs.

Today Issy is completing the last day of her 12th round of chemotherapy. She only has TWO more to go after this yay.!!

Now that we are nearing the end of chemotherapy, we seem to have found what works and what doesn't but honestly I wouldn't wish this upon anyone. The toll it has taken on Issy is huge, but she just calmly carries on and wants to get on with her life.

Something Issy likes to do when the weather cooperates is to go for a walk up around the museum, which we have managed to do only once this time.

From the very beginning one thing Issy was determined not have was a feeding tube. She has managed to do this but it has been hard work especially when the chemotherapy makes everything taste strange and gives you nausea.

Since her operation in November she has been slowly losing more and more weight not just from the chemo but also from being unable to walk and weight bear. In the last month Issy has been working really hard to gain weight and has managed to gain an entire kg which is amazing.

Needless to say, mum and dad spend a lot of time in the kitchen making anything that she feels like. One of her favourite foods is Sushi which thankfully her awesome dad is very good at making for her.

The lovely Victoria made Issy the most delicious dairy free cupcakes which are now Issy's favourite sweet treat. Thank you again πŸ₯°.

We are home again πŸ˜‰. Issy is doing well and starting to feel better. She is hanging with Dad making music.
