We also performed our first march at the Waikato Bay of Plenty Brass Band Association contest today!

It was so much fun for us to put this march together and try something a little bit different. Who says you need to wait until a national contest when you have a band of young enthusiasts players 🎶

We are getting ready to head to the Waikato Bay of Plenty Brass Band Association contest in just a couple of weeks, where we’ll be competing for the first time under our new name, Bay of Plenty Youth Brass!

Our new name reflects our focus on creating opportunities for young musicians from across the Bay of Plenty to play, perform and develop together. We also have a new logo and brand-new band shirts on the way, which we can’t wait to share with you at contest!

It was pretty exciting to look around our practice room on Friday and see an almost entirely youth-filled band, with a few more young players who couldn’t make the extra practice. We are also very grateful to the wonderful experienced adult players who continue to support and encourage our young musicians as we compete in D Grade this year.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us and helped us get to this point. We really appreciate all the encouragement we’ve received over the past few years as the band has grown and developed.

There are lots of exciting things ahead, including some new projects for 2027 as we continue creating more opportunities for young musicians across the Bay of Plenty. 🎶

Over the weekend, our band attended the Matamata Bands Festival for the very first time and we were incredibly proud to come away with a Silver Award along with the Adjudicator’s Choice Cup across both days of the festival!!

What’s more awsome is the large number of schools our students come from across Tauranga and the Western Bay, including ACG Tauranga, Tauranga Intermediate, Tauranga Boys College, Otumoetai College, Mount Maunganui College, Bethlehem College, Katikati College and Omanu Primary.

A huge thank you to everyone who has supported the band, and congratulations to all of our players 🎶
