Proudly run by Taupo Parents Centre. Helping keep Taupō kids safe on every journey. At Taupō Car Seat Service, we offer FREE checks and help with installation on any child’s car seat — no matter where you bought it from! Our certified technician can:

✅ Make sure your baby or child fits their seat properly
✅ Offer friendly advice on choosing and using car seats

We also hire capsules, toddler seats, and booster seats — perfect for local whānau or visitors to Taupō.

💰 Hire Costs

🍼Capsule Hire

7-month hire: $60 + $50 bond

Short-term hire (max 1 month): $50 + $50 bond

👶 Toddler Seat

12-month hire: $120 + $80 bond

Medium-term hire (max 6 months): $75 + $50 bond

Short-term hire (max 3 months): $65 + $50 bond

Short-term hire (max 1 month): $50 + $50 bond

🧒 Booster Seat Hire

Short-term hire: $30 + $50 bond

💡 Bond is returned a couple of weeks after seats are returned, due to processing times.

🚗 Important Safety Update for Local Parents 🚗

**Unbranded and online only brands**

Hey everyone! As local child restraint technicians, we know how expensive it is to set up a nursery. When you see a brand-new baby car seat online for a great price, it feels like an amazing win for the family budget! Lately, we have seen a rise in online-only brands being brought in for installations. Because these seats often have the correct orange safety stickers on them, it is easy to see why parents think they are getting a great deal.

However, we want to gently share some important information about what we are finding when we handle these seats in person:
● The Minimum Standard: Safety stickers only mean a seat passed the bare minimum legal test on paper. High-quality brands choose to build their seats far above that minimum baseline. They use thick, heavy layers of strong plastic and steel to protect your child. Budget brands use clever marketing spins to sell these seats.
● Flimsy Materials: When we hold these budget seats, the physical quality tells a different story. The plastic shells feel thin and hollow. They easily bend, twist, or creak when you squeeze the sides with your hands.
● Soft Straps: The harness straps often feel soft and floppy like a stroller strap, rather than thick and rigid like an adult car seatbelt.

What you can do instead: We totally understand that every dollar counts! If you are looking for a safe, budget-friendly option, we highly recommend
● Hiring a Seat: We offer affordable capsule and carseat hire options, this is much cheaper than purchasing a seat outright. Our 7 month capsule hire costs just $50, with a $50 bond.
● Buying in store: purchase a car seat in store so you can feel the seat yourself, when shopping give the wings a firm squeeze, it should be rock solid and the seat should feel heavy.

If you have already bought one of these seats and are feeling worried, please don't feel judged! We are here to help you, not criticize you. Bring it to us for a friendly checkover so we can talk through your options and make sure your baby is riding safely. Let's keep our local pēpi safe on the roads!

Hi everyone! I thought i would properly introduce myself as the face behind this page. I'm Jess, and after spending the last year being the admin of the carseat service, as well as being trained in child car restraint by Brooke, I'm excited to announce that I'm officially a qualified child restraint technician.

Car seat safety is something I became passionate about after having my first child and I love being able to help parents and caregivers feel more confident that their child is travelling safely.

I look forward to meeting all of you who come through the carseat service, and am excited to be able to provide this free service to the Taupo community. 🩷

As registered child restraint technicians, we’re often asked why we recommend keeping children rear facing for as long as possible. This video from Trygg Trafikk , from Norway, one of the world leaders in child car seat safety and extended rear facing explains it very well.

A child’s head is proportionally much larger and heavier than an adult’s, while their neck and spine are still developing. In a forward-facing crash, huge forces are placed on the neck. Rear facing seats help absorb and distribute those forces across the child’s entire back, greatly reducing the risk of serious injury.

That’s why current best practice is to keep children rear facing until they reach the maximum height or weight limit of their car seat, not simply until a certain birthday.

We know every family and every vehicle setup is different, and there’s no judgement, our goal is always education and helping families make informed choices for their children’s safety.
