Rear facing your child. What, why and how?
In 2018, the American Academy of Paediatrics updated their safety guidelines to recommend that children rear face for as long as possible. The older the child, the stronger their spinal collum.

Most carseat manufacturers, car seat technicians and paediatricians will recommend and advocate for extended rear facing carseats. As usual, message us with any questions or concerns 😊

We’re updating our hire fleet so that means we need to make some space and clear out some aging stock. Seats range from 2 years remaining to 6. All come with accessories and have been cleaned and maintained throughout their life. Send us a message if you’d like to purchase one or you’d like some more info.

The essential checks to make sure it actually fits your car and your child:

✔️Capsules
Usually used from newborn to around 10 months old, depending on baby's height/weight. Many convertible carseats are suitable for newborns and can be a better long term option.

✔️ Installation type
ISOFIX, latch or seat belt?
⚠️ Many rigid ISOFIX seats won't install well into NZ cars because of seat shape.

✔️ Will it fit your car?
Not all seats fit all vehicles. Some cars are not fitted with isofix or tether points, which some seats require to fit.
Message us, we can give advice on which carseats may best fit your car.

✔️ Harness limits
Common NZ seat limits: 18kg, 25kg, 29–36kg.
18kg is a poor weight limit seat and will be outgrown very quickly, all isofix only seats have a 18kg limit.

✔️ Rear-facing time
Choose a seat that keeps your child rear-facing as long as possible.

✔️ Expiry date
Always check the expiry, especially second-hand seats. Different seats have different expiry lengths.

✔️ Child fit
Make sure it suits your child’s height, weight, and shoulder level.

✔️ Longevity
Some cheaper seats are outgrown quickly, costing you more in the long run as you'll have to buy another seat.
