A parade of former soldiers, currently serving soldiers and their families marched through the streets of Taupō on Sunday.
The parade was part of the biannual reunion of the NZ Vietnam Veterans Association, which was held in Taupō for the second time.
The event began on Friday with a tribute to Ngāti Tūwharetoa at Nukuhau Marae, before they held their AGM and formal dinner on Saturday...

Today marks one year since the passing of Tā Tumu Te Heuheu Tūkino VIII. We honour the mana he carried, the leadership he gave and his deep commitment to Ngāti Tūwharetoa.

From the peaks of Tongariro to the waters of Taupō-nui-a-Tia, his mana remains woven through the whenua, the wai and the hearts of Ngāti Tūwharetoa. Moe mai rā, e te Ariki. 🏔️✨

HE AITUA 🕊️ Paranapa Rewi Otimi (21 Hakihea 1959 – 10 Hūrae 2026)

Kua hinga tētahi o ngā pou tokomanawa o Ngāti Tūwharetoa.

E te iwi o Ngāti Tūwharetoa, e ngā marae, e ngā hapū, e ngā whānau whānui, kua pā mai te aitua nui i te hinganga o tō tātou rangatira, Paranapa Rewi Otimi.

He tangata i ū ki tōna whakapapa, ki tōna iwi, ki ngā tikanga tuku iho. He pou whakairo, he kaikōkiri, he kaitiaki hoki mō Ngāti Tūwharetoa, nāna i whakapau kaha ki te whakakaha i te mana me te oranga o tō tātou iwi.

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Paranapa Rewi Otimi, a respected kaumātua, rangatira, and dedicated leader.

Throughout his years of service to Ngāti Tūwharetoa, Napa demonstrated leadership, wisdom, and an unwavering commitment to our whakapapa, tikanga, and the collective aspirations of our iwi. His legacy of service, mana, and rangatiratanga will continue to guide and inspire generations to come.

Ka whakaae te whānau kia tae atu te iwi ki te tuku i ngā mihi whakamutunga ki tō tātou rangatira.

Tangihanga arrangements are outlined in the official whānau pānui below. We respectfully ask our iwi to honour the wishes of the whānau by observing the request for no social media, photography, or videography throughout the tangihanga.
