🌱 SPRING AROUND THE WHARE

With the change of season, it might be time to tackle a few of those jobs around the whare — getting back into the maara, planting, clearing gutters, sorting small repairs or finally getting stuck into a project that’s been waiting.

Through our Bunnings PowerPass kaupapa, 628 cards have now been provided to registered whānau, giving access to PowerPass pricing on eligible purchases.

It’s a simple way to save on the things you’re already buying for your whare — keeping more pūtea in your pocket while you care for, maintain and improve your kāinga.

If you haven’t registered yet, you can still apply 👇
https://tst.maori.nz/bunnings-powerpass-application-form/

🔨 And there’s more Whare Ora kaupapa coming your way.

We’re working on some practical Whare Ora workshops to help whānau build the confidence and know-how to tackle some of those everyday jobs around the whare themselves.

Watch this space — more details coming soon. 🏡🌿

💰 TĒNEI TE KARANGA KI NGĀ POU WHAKAWHIRINAKI O TE IWI 💰

Our final Te Pou Whirinaki governance wānanga in Tūrangi for 2026 is coming up!
We’ll be wrapping up this year’s programme with Te Pou Whirinaki – Finance Essentials, designed to strengthen the confidence of whānau serving in governance roles across our marae, whānau trusts and Māori entities.

This practical wānanga will support you to better understand financial reports, budgeting, financial governance responsibilities, and the questions you should be asking around the board table.

📍 Tūrangi – in person
📘 Finance Essentials

If you’ve been meaning to join us this year, this is your final opportunity before we close out our 2026 Te Pou Whirinaki programme.

🏡❤️ TIAKI KĀINGA. TIAKI WHĀNAU. ❤️🏡

E te whānau, daylight saving begins this Sunday — our clocks move forward one hour.

While you’re changing the clocks, take a moment to press the button on your smoke alarms and make sure they’re still doing their mahi.

It’s a small job, but an important one.

🔥 Smoke alarms save lives — helping protect our kāinga and, most importantly, the people within them. 🔥

And if you don’t have smoke alarms in your whare, kei te pai — kōrero mai.

Our He Iwi Kāinga team can come out, supply and install them for you free of charge. No cost, no fuss — just one more way we can help keep our whānau and kāinga safe. Thanks to our friends at Fire and Emergency NZ.

🌿I KNOW MY WHĀNAU HAVE WHENUA — BUT I DON’T KNOW WHERE TO START 🌿

We hear this kōrero often, e te whānau.

“My grandparents have passed — how do I find out if they had whenua?”

“The whenua is still in my Koro’s name and he passed 20 years ago. What do we do?”

“What actually is succession?”

“Why would our whānau need a trust — and what does a trust do?”

“I want to return to our whenua — where do I even begin?”

These are exactly the kinds of pātai you can bring to our Paneke Clinic. ❤
You don’t need to know the block name, understand the Māori Land Court system or have all the paperwork.

Start with what you know. Start with a kōrero.

Sit kanohi ki te kanohi with Māori Land Court kaimahi and get some guidance on where to go next.

🏡❤️ HE KĀINGA MŌ TŌ WHĀNAU — HE ARA WHAKAMUA ❤️ 🏡

E te whānau, our next Sorted Kāinga Ora kaupapa starts this Wednesday — and there’s still room around the table.

We’re kicking off our first evening with a kōrero about the different pathways that can help whānau move towards owning a kāinga of their own.

For many of us, the hardest part can simply be knowing what’s out there, what we might qualify for, and where to begin.

So we’ll bring the kōrero, the mātauranga and the kai — you bring your pātai and your aspirations for your whānau. ❤️

We’ll kōrero about progressive home ownership, rent-to-buy, Community Housing Provider pathways, KiwiSaver and other affordable home ownership options that whānau may not even know are available.

**Mā te mōhio ka mārama, mā te mārama ka anga whakamua.**
Through knowledge comes understanding, and through understanding we can move forward. ✨

You don’t have to have everything sorted. You don’t have to be ready to buy a whare now.

Come and learn, ask questions, share kōrero and leave knowing a little more about the pathways that could be available to you and your whānau.

📅 Wednesday 23 September
⏰ 5.30pm – 8.00pm
📍 Te Whare Hono o Tūwharetoa, 67 Horomātangi Street, Taupō

🍽️ Kai is provided — spaces are still available, so please let us know if you’re coming so we can cater for everyone.

❤️ TE TAIOPENGA 2026 | NGĀ MAHARATANGA ❤️

One last share, e te whānau — because there were far too many beautiful moments to leave behind. ❤️

Four days captured through the lens — our pēpi, tamariki, rangatahi, kaiako and whānau; the haka, the waiata, the smiles, the nerves, the proud moments and everything happening in between.
Anei ētahi o ā mātou tino maharatanga from Te Taiopenga 2026. 📸 Check out out album titled Taiopenga 2026.

To our whānau who filled the whare, stood behind our tauira and celebrated alongside us — ngā mihi nui ki a koutou.

And a special mihi to Joel Corbie | CorbieFilms for capturing our people so beautifully across all four days and giving us these memories to hold onto. ❤️

Enjoy the photos, e te whānau — you might just spot someone you know! 👀📸

❤️ TE TAIOPENGA 2026 | RĀ TUAWHĀ ❤️

40 years. Four days. 85 roopū. One incredible celebration of our people. Our last highlight reel.

And our tauira did us proud.

From our tamariki taking the stage for the first time, to our rangatahi standing strong in their reo, their kapa haka and their identity for another year— this is what Te Taiopenga is all about.

He mihi nui ki ngā tauira, ngā kaiako, ngā kura, ngā whānau and every pair of hands behind the scenes who made these four days possible.

Kua mutu Te Taiopenga 2026 — engari ka mau tonu ngā maharatanga.

Until next time, e te whānau.

❤️ TE TAIOPENGA 2026 | RĀ TUATORU ❤️

Ko ā tātou tamariki, ko ā tātou rangatahi.

Day Three and our whānau continue to fill the stage with mana, pride and everything that makes Te Taiopenga so special.

From the smallest performers to our rangatahi — every waiata, every haka, every smile is another part of a kaupapa that has now been carried for 40 years.

One more day to go, e te whānau! Come down, tautoko our tauira and experience the ihi, te wehi me te wana for yourself.

❤️ TE TAIOPENGA 2026 | RĀ TUARUA ❤️

Another day, another stage full of ihi, wehi and wana. 🔥

Our pepi, tamariki and rangatahi doing what they do best — standing proud, sharing our reo, our waiata and the taonga handed down through generations.

Anei ētahi wāhanga o Rā Tuarua — just a few of our favourite moments from Day Two.

There’s still plenty more to come, e te whānau. Haere mai, fill the whare, tautoko our babies and celebrate 40 years of Te Taiopenga!

❤️ TE TAIOPENGA 2026 | 40 TAU ❤️

Anei ētahi wāhanga o te rā — a few highlights from Day 1 - Te Taiopenga 2026!
40 years of celebrating our tauira, our reo, our taonga tuku iho and the whanaungatanga that brings our people together. He mihi nui ki ngā ringa raupā — all those past and present whose mahi has carried this kaupapa for four decades.
The ihi, the wehi, the wana — and there is plenty more to come!

Te Taiopenga continues all week, so haere mai e te whānau. Come down, tautoko our tamariki and rangatahi, watch them take the stage and celebrate everything this kaupapa represents.

And while you’re here, pop over and say kia ora to our TST- He Iwi Kāinga team — have a kōrero, ask a pātai or find out more about the kaupapa and support available to our whānau.

Mauri ora e te whānau!
