AI is quickly becoming another tool in the business toolkit, with plenty of potential to save time, improve how we work and support better business outcomes.

We've partnered with Preductive and EMA, and are bringing two practical AI workshops to Taupō, with sessions designed for businesses at different stages of their AI journey.

AI for Better Work | 10am–1pm
For those new to AI or looking to build their confidence. A practical introduction to using AI in your day-to-day work and understanding where it could add value.

Next Steps for AI | 1pm–4pm
For businesses already experimenting with AI and ready to take things further. Explore how to build on what you’re already doing and use AI more effectively across your business.

The focus is on making AI practical, useful and relevant to the way local businesses actually work.

What a way to finish 10 weeks of Amp It Up!
Last night we celebrated the 2026 Amp It Up cohort with our Celebration Pitch Night, bringing together local entrepreneurs who have spent the past 10 weeks working through their businesses, testing their ideas and getting clearer on what comes next.

Some of these businesses are already up and running, while others are still bringing their ideas to life, so it was fantastic to see each founder share where they’re at and what they’re working towards.
A special mention also goes to Matthew from Resilience Coaching, who completed the programme but was unfortunately unwell and unable to join us last night.
It has been fantastic to watch this group develop over the past 10 weeks. Each business is at a different stage and has a different story, but they’ve all put in the work, asked the hard questions and taken the next steps towards building their businesses.
A massive thank you to everyone who has supported Amp It Up this year, including our fantastic guest speakers who generously shared their experiences, lessons and business wisdom with the cohort.
And of course, a huge congratulations to the cohort. Starting or growing a business takes plenty of courage, hard work and persistence, and you should all be proud of what you’ve achieved.
We’re looking forward to seeing where you take things from here. Congratulations, everyone!

We’re pretty excited about next week!
We’ve got two fantastic events happening, both with a great mix of learning, local business and connection.
On Tuesday we’re celebrating our 2026 Amp It Up cohort at Amp It Up Pitch Night.
After 10 weeks of working through their business ideas, testing their thinking and building their business knowledge, our cohort is ready to pitch. We’ve seen the progress they’ve made along the way and we can’t wait to see them take the stage and share what they’ve been working on.
Then on Thursday we’re joined by Jolie Hurdley from Conduct for Is your marketing actually working?
This will be a practical session for anyone who wants to better understand what’s working in their marketing, what isn’t and where to focus their effort. No complicated marketing speak, just useful ideas you can take back to your business and action straight away.

We're halfway through the September Taupō District Business Sentiment Survey and there’s still time to have your say.

We want to hear what businesses across the district are experiencing right now: from customer demand and operating pressures to workforce needs, investment plans and confidence in the local economy.

The Contact Energy Public Open Day was a great way to wrap up New Zealand Geothermal Week 2026!

More than 350 people joined us at Contact Energy’s Tauhara Power Station, getting a behind-the-scenes look at one of New Zealand’s newest geothermal power stations and learning more about the role geothermal plays in our renewable energy future.

A huge thank you to Contact Energy for opening the doors to the community and for being a Gold Partner of New Zealand Geothermal Week.

Contact’s contribution to Taupō goes well beyond generating renewable electricity. They provide free swimming and water safety lessons for around 3,500 local primary school students each year, with more than 40,000 tamariki supported to date, and partner with Sport Bay of Plenty to strengthen youth sport and the volunteer coaches who make it possible.

Their partnership helps us showcase our geothermal industry, connect our community with what’s happening locally, and celebrate the role Taupō plays in New Zealand’s energy future.
