🌿🏕️ A HUGE congratulations to Justin! 🏕️🌿
We are incredibly proud to celebrate an amazing achievement within the 1st Taupō Scout Group! 💚💜
Justin has been awarded the King Scout Kauri Award — one of the highest honours in New Zealand Scouting! 🏆🌳
After a decade of Scouting adventures, challenges, outdoor activities, community service and leadership, Justin has truly shown what it means to live by the Scout values and make a difference.
The award was presented during one of our regular group meetings, with members of the national Scouting team travelling to Taupō especially for the occasion — making it an incredibly special night for Justin, his family, our leaders and the whole group.
Only 27 young people across New Zealand received this award last year, making this an outstanding achievement. 👏
Justin, we are so incredibly proud of you and everything you have achieved through Scouting. Your dedication, leadership and commitment are something to be celebrated. ❤️
Congratulations, Justin! 🎉🏕️🌳
From all of us at 1st Taupō Scout Group — well done! 👏👏

🌟 What a fantastic Term 3 we’ve had at the Taupō Scout Group! 🌟

What a busy and exciting term it's been.
we’ve packed so much into the last few months.

We’ve had:
🌙 Night walks
🔧 Engineering and hands-on activities
🚑 Visits from emergency services
🎲 Games and team challenges
🏎️ Derby car racing
💰 Jamboree fundraising
🔥 Cooking over fires
👨‍👧‍👦 Father’s Day activities
…and plenty more!

It’s been a term full of fun, learning, new experiences and friendships. Watching our young people get stuck in, try new things and support each other is what Scouting is all about. ❤️

A huge thank you to all the amazing people who help make our groups happen — from our dedicated leaders to our wonderful parent helpers. Your time, energy and continued support are what make the 1st Taupō Scout Group the fantastic group that it is. We couldn’t do it without you! 🙌

And now… bring on Term 4! 🎉
We’re looking forward to more adventures, more outdoor activities and, hopefully, plenty of time out on the lake! 🌊

🏁 RACE DAY! 🏁

Tonight our Cubs and Scouts joined forces for a fantastic Derby Car Race Night! 🚗💨

We also had a very special visit from the Lynmore Scout Group, who joined in on all the racing action.

It was fast, fun and VERY noisy! 😂🏁 There were some amazing car designs, plenty of cheering and lots of excitement as everyone raced their cars down the track.

What a way to finish off the term! 🎉

A huge thank you to everyone who came along and made it such a fun night.

Well done Cubs and Scouts — you smashed it! 👏💚⚜️

🏎️ LEGO DERBY CARS! 🏎️

Last night our amazing Keas got creative and built some wonderful LEGO derby cars! 🧱✨

Once the creations were ready, it was time to put them to the test and race them down our purpose-built derby track! 🏁

There were some fantastic designs, plenty of excitement and, of course, lots of racing fun! 😆

Just look at these awesome creations! 🤩🧱🏎️

Well done, Keas — you’re all little LEGO engineers in the making! 👏💙

🚨 WHAT A WEEK IT’S BEEN AT 1ST TAUPŌ SCOUT GROUP! 🚨

Friday night our Venturers had a visit from Hato Hone St John 🚑

They learnt more about what St John does and the important work they do in our community. They also got hands-on with some basic CPR skills and worked through a range of first aid scenarios, putting their teamwork and problem-solving skills to the test.

It was a fantastic opportunity for our Venturers to learn some practical skills that could one day make a real difference. ❤️

A huge thank you to Hato Hone St John for giving up your time and sharing your knowledge with our Venturers!

And this was only the beginning of a very busy week for 1st Taupō Scouts… 👀🏕️

🌙 Cubs meet SARR! 🚨🔦

Last night our Cubs had a very special visit from SARR – Land Search and Rescue!

The Cubs got to learn all about what SARR does and how they help when people are lost or in trouble. They had a go at using long-wave radios 📻 and learnt about emergency service kits and some of the equipment used during searches.

And of course, no Cubs night would be complete without a little adventure! 😆

The Cubs took part in a scavenger hunt in the dark 🔦🌲 — which is always a favourite!

A huge thank you to the SARR team for coming along, sharing your knowledge and giving our Cubs such a fun and hands-on evening. ❤️

🚔🦎 KEAS + POLICE = ONE VERY EXCITING NIGHT! 👮‍♂️😂

Last night our Keas had a special visit from our local police officer — aka Gecko! 🦎👮‍♂️

Gecko gave the Keas a tour of the police car 🚓 and told them all about what it’s really like being a police officer in Taupō and the surrounding areas.

There were plenty of questions, lots of curious little Keas and, of course, a very close inspection of the police car! 👀😂

The Keas got to learn about the important work our local police do in our community and what their job involves — although we’re not sure whether they were more interested in the police work or the flashing lights! 🚨🤣

A huge thank you to Gecko for giving up his evening to come along and share his knowledge with our Keas. We really appreciate it! ❤️

Another great night of learning, exploring and having a bit of fun along the way! 🌟

We can’t wait to see what you come up with and, of course, see whose car will be the fastest down the track! 🏆🏎️💨

🌙🥾 Night Time Hike! 🥾🌙

Tonight our Scouts took on a night-time adventure, hiking from Huka Falls to Aratiatia Dam — a 7.2km trek, according to Rūshka’s fancy watch! 😂⌚

They had a great time exploring the trail in the dark, navigating together and enjoying a completely different side of the track. 🌲🔦

And of course, no Scout adventure would be complete without meeting a friendly critter along the way! 🦔 They found a little hedgehog, who was very quickly named Sonic! 😂

A fantastic night of teamwork, team building and adventure, helping get our Scouts ready for Jamboree in December. 🏕️

A huge thank you to all our leaders and parents who came along, walked with the group and helped support the Scouts tonight. ❤️

Well done, Scouts — another adventure ticked off! 🌙🥾🦔
